Common Ground Coffee House  
Common Ground Coffeehouse will show Martin Scorsese's film Silence on Friday, April 14, at 7 p.m. The movie is based on Shusaku Endo's classic novel about the attempt to rid Japan of Christians in the 17th century, an appropriate story for Good Friday. Starring Andrew Garfield, Liam Neeson, and Adam Driver, rated R, 2 hrs 41 min. Complimentary supper served at 6:30 p.m.

Helping Hands Food Pantry  
The next Helping Hands Food Pantry is Wednesday, April 19. Helping Hands is open every other Wednesday from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the Harbor Church.

Study Hall 
Sundays from 2 to 5 p.m. and Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m., the Island Free Library will be holding Power Hours for Scholars. Staff will be on hand to supervise and facilitate research, monitor group projects, and answer basic comprehension questions. Enter through the side door. Study hall is postponed during April vacation and will resume April 23.

Tech Talk 
The Island Free Library is hosting discussions about the latest technology and digital devices every Wednesday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Free advice and free tips. Everyone is welcome!

Peanut Butter Drive 
Washington Trust is having its annual Peanut Butter Drive. Please drop off new jars of peanut butter in the lobby of Washington Trust during business hours over the next few weeks. All jars collected will go to the Helping Hands Food Pantry.

Lunch Bunch 
Lunch Bunch is held every Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at the Community Center.

Stations Of The Cross 
St. Ann’s By-The-Sea invites everyone to walk the Stations of the Cross in commemoration of Good Friday. Meet at the corner of Chapel St. and Water St. to walk the story of the path to the Crucifixion. Friday, April 14, at noon. In case of inclement weather they will gather at St. Ann’s church instead.

Easter Bunny & Easter Egg Hunt  
The Easter Egg Hunt is on Saturday, April 15, at 11 a.m. at Ball O’Brien Park. There will also be a visit from the Easter Bunny. Sponsored by the Block Island Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Woodcock Walk  
Come witness the woodcock’s unique courtship flights. Saturday, April 15, at 7:15 p.m. Meet at the Hodge Preserve. Sponsored by the James Stover Exploration Series.

Second Chance Poetry Reading
Steve Hollaway is offering a second performance of poems from his sabbatical on Saturday, April 15, at 7 p.m. in the parsonage on the second floor of Harbor Church. Refreshments will be served.

Easter Sunrise Service 
The public is invited to witness sunrise from the Ocean View Pavilion at the Community Easter Sunrise Service, Sunday, April 16, at 6 a.m. sharp. We suggest you arrive a few minutes early. Afterwards, a hot breakfast of waffles and ham will be served at Harbor Church. Donations accepted but not required.

Easter Ecumenical Choir Concert
There is an Easter Ecumenical Choir Concert on Sunday, April 16, at 9 a.m. at the Harbor Church. All Are welcome. Collation to follow.

Ask A Question, Share A Solution 
On Wednesday, April 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Town Hall. Your input is desired regarding long-term planning for Corn Neck Road between Bridgegate Square and Scotch Beach. The town has received a planning grant for rebuilding along Corn Neck Road. Carissa Lord of the engineering firm VHB will be on hand to hear your thoughts. An overview of Corn Neck Road issues will be followed by a discussion where we want to hear your ideas and concerns.

Hurricanes Home Games 
The Girls Varsity Softball will be playing Classical on Thursday, April 20, at 12:15 p.m. The Girls Varsity Softball will be playing Hope on Saturday, April 29, at 12:30 p.m. The Boys Varsity Baseball will be playing Highlander on Monday, May, 1, at 12:30 p.m. The Boys Varsity Baseball will be playing Times Squared Academy on Friday, May 5, at 12:30 p.m. All games are played at Heinz Field.

Earth Day Block Island  
A series of events will be taking place on Saturday, April 22, to commemorate Earth Day. Bird banding at Clay Head Trail at 9 a.m.; March for Science starting at the Statue of Rebecca at noon; Island Clean-Up starting at the Solviken Property at 1 p.m.; Pot Luck Dinner at the Island Free Library at 5 p.m.; and a documentary film at the Library at 7 p.m.

Taize Prayer Service
There will be a Taize Prayer Service on Wednesday, April 26, at 5 p.m. at St. Ann’s By-The-Sea.

2017 July 4th celebration  
The theme of this year’s parade is “Block Island Memories.” Fireworks will be held on Sunday, July 2 (rain date July 3). Donations are needed to reserve bands and fireworks. Please send to Double Ender Committee, PO Box 808, Block Island, R.I. 02807.
