Interstate Navigation is updating its commuter card database information, and wants to let island resident commuter card holders know that vehicle registration and driver’s license information will need to be updated in person in order to secure a new card.

Current commuter cards will remain active until March 1, 2018. But if the cardholder does not personally submit an application for a new card by that date, the current card will expire. Application forms can be found at the Block Island freight office.

“Over the next few months, we will be updating your Islander card with our new computer data base,” states a letter to cardholders. “This will require you to submit a renewal application and provide a current copy of your driver license and vehicle registration. This will also assist us in contacting you with any ferry-related issues. Your current card will be active until March 1, 2018. You will have until then to submit a renewal application. All renewals will be required to be in person because a photo will be required.

The letter informs cardholders that “renewal and new applications for Islander cards will only be processed at the Block Island Ticket OfficeCurrent card holders will have their card validated once a completed renewal form has been submitted. Your current card will then remain active until we issue a new card. Current Islander cards that have not been submitted for renewal by March 1, 2018 will no longer be valid. Any request for a current card to be renewed after that date will result in a delay and will not receive a discount during that time.”

Intertstate said it will make every effort to include the cardholder’s license plate number on the new card. If the license plate is the same one as on the current card, the cardholder will not have to bring their registration to the ticket window. “If for some reason your license plate number is not on your card, you will need to bring your vehicle registration to the ticket window and you will receive the same discount,” the letter states.

Renewal requirements are:

Appear in person at the B.I. Ticket Office with a completed application.
