JV Hurricanes top Wheeler, 8-4
Hot-hitting leadoff hitter Cole McGinnes blasted a triple to deep left-field, sparking a four-run first inning onslaught, as the Junior Varsity Hurricanes baseball team never looked back rolling to an 8-4 victory over The Wheeler School on May 12. McGinnes, who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, also dazzled playing left field, throwing out a runner at home plate on the fly, capping a standout performance.
Hurricanes shortstop Daniel Cullen had a stellar game, smashing a home run to right center that scored McGinnes, staking the Hurricanes to a 6-1 lead. That was all starting pitcher and co-captain James Arnott needed to notch his second victory of the season.
Also aiding the Hurricanes was co-captain and catcher Nick Phillips, who called a solid game behind the plate, and went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. And center fielder Jayden Smith flashed the leather, using his speed to make several great catches on tricky fly balls.
This was a well-played game by the Hurricanes, who displayed good defense, dominant pitching, and timely hitting. The team’s next game is at The Providence Country Day School on May 19 at 2:15 p.m. They finish the season at the Jamestown School on May 26 at 3:30 p.m.
