Thank you, Block Island

To the Editor:

Tickets for the Block Island Medical Center Annual Gala to be held Sunday, July 9, at the Sullivan House are sold out.

Thank you to the Block Island community for your enthusiastic and generous support for the Center and this event.

Our next fundraiser is the annual Fun Run, which takes place on Sunday, Aug. 6 at 8:30 a.m. at the Fred Benson Town Beach. All are welcome.

To the Editor:

My family and I would like to thank the staff of the Block Island Medical Center for the wonderful care that was provided to my 79-year old mother over this past, busy holiday weekend. My mother had contracted a severe intestinal illness and was dehydrated and very weak when we brought her to the Medical Center. The staff, including Dr. Mark Clark, Linda Closter, and a wonderful medical student from Brown University (Wes) were compassionate and kind in administering their expert care and my mother is now thankfully recovered. We are so grateful for the Block Island Health Services.

Over the years, our family has visited the Center for many reasons — bug in ear canal, dog bite, twisted ankle — and each time we have been impressed with the care provided. We have also been struck by how different life on Block Island would be without the Center, and view it as an island resource which should be supported.

With gratitude,

To the Editor:

Special Fourth of July thanks to:

-Interstate Navigation, which provides ferry tickets worth thousands of dollars every year to all our visiting band members and for patiently helping us with our much-needed truck reservations.

-Deepwater Wind and all the other island businesses, residents, and visitors, who contributed to our great fireworks display and events.

-Dead Eye Dick’s and the New London Ferry for generously funding all the rest of our parade expenses.

-To Joe Sprague, Abel Sprague and Paul Quackenbush for help with the fireworks setup and cleanup.

-Police Department, Block Island Volunteer Fire Department, and the Narragansett Hotel for parade setup location.

We have a great start on next year, and are still accepting donations to make our needed reservations in January. Please send your donation to The Double Ender Committee, Box 808, Block Island, R.I. 02807.

Thank you.
