Proposed Amendment to New Shoreham General Ordinances
Chapter 6. Health and Sanitation, add a new Article IV - Plastic Bags
Town Hall, Old Town Road
Wednesday, November 15, 2017
7:00 p.m.
The New Shoreham Town Council will hold a public hearing to consider amending New Shoreham’s Revised General Ordinances Chapter 6 Health and Sanitation, to add a new Article IV - Plastic Bags. The proposed ordinance would encouraging the use of reusable carryout bags, banning the use of single use plastic carryout bags for retail checkout of goods, and reducing the number of single use carryout bags that enter our environment.  The ordinance is posted at Town Hall, the Block Island Free Library and the Post Office and on the Town’s website, new-shoreham.com.  It appeared in its entirety in the Block Island Times on October 7, October 14 and September 30, 2017.  Before acting on the ordinance, the New Shoreham Town Council will hold a Public Hearing at the time and place referenced above at which time all persons for or against may be heard.

    •    First Baptist Church. Plat 7, Lot 17. Application by Anthony Pappas for a Special Use Permit under Section 405 Affordable Housing. The application of the Harbor Church is to construct four, one bedroom year round, rental apartments on the third floor of the church building.
    •    Block Island Power Company, Inc. Plat 17, Lot 37. Application for a Special Use Permit under Sections 113 (B)(4), 401, 416 and 417 for the removal of five underground storage tanks and the construction of two concrete pads and the replacement of the five underground storage tanks with two 12,000 gallon above ground diesel storage tanks.
    •    Rosman, Lowell and Jane. Plat 5, Lot 35. Application by John Spier for a Variance from Sections 113(C) and 309(C) to convert an existing structure into a single family dwelling and to rebuild an existing accessory structure.
Decisions:
    •    Wallen, Jonathan & Anastos, Katheryn. Plat 18, Lot 60. Application for a Variance from Sections 113(C) and 307(C) to construct an addition to a single family dwelling.
    •    Mensching, William and Holly. Plat 2, Lot 6. Application for a Variance from Sections 113(C) and 306(C) to expand the second floor living area.
