Songs sailors sang at BIMI

Thursday, July 20
Fri, 07/14/2017 - 7:30am

On Thursday, July 20, at 7:30 p.m., the Block Island Maritime Institute’s Cove Room will host Bonnie Milner and Jon Campbell, who will entertain Block Islanders, vacationers, and visitors with songs sailors sang.

Admission is free and refreshments will be served.

Bonnie Milner is a founding member of The Johnson Girls, an a cappella singing group that has been a force on the folk and maritime music scene for over two decades. Bonnie, just back from her 20th trip singing in Ireland, steps out of her group to join Jon Campbell to bring us a series of sea shanties and songs about the sea.

Folk singer Jon Campbell has performed at the National Hotel and Mahogany Shoals among other Island venues. His music has to do with contemporary issues along the coast of New England. He can be humorous or poignant, and his subjects include regional cuisine, the fisheries, tourists, waterfront antics and cranky Yankees.

It should be quite an evening — come and join us to hear Bonnie and Jon sing the songs that sailors sang.
