History Happening Here- Tours have started
Thank you for your interest in the Block Island Historical Society. We all value everyone who shares our love of the island and its heritage.
Currently, the Town of New Shoreham and the State of Rhode Island are re-opening after the Covid-19 shutdown this past year.
The museum was closed during the winter months but we are grateful for a grant from the Champlin Foundation that is helping to fund storm window installation on the 3rd floor windows and newly restored 1st floor windows. Work on this projects will begin this summer. We will also start the work funded by the 1772 Foundation/Preserve RI grant for restoration of the cupola.
We have recently updated the website to include the new virtual exhibits on Block Island’s early history, the Old Harbor walking tour and interviews by a descendant of the Manisseans.
We look forward to opening our doors on July 3rd with updated exhibits on 2 floors. In the meantime, please visit us at Facebook — we have two separate pages, our “official” page is managed by our staff, the other, a membership page, where we invite folks to share photos and memories of Block Island is handled by Board members and volunteers and is currently active. Every effort will be made to answer questions posed on Facebook. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
