Thank you for your interest in the Block Island Historical Society. We all value everyone who shares our love of the island and its heritage.
Currently, the Town of New Shoreham and the State of Rhode Island are in the stages of a phased re-opening after the Covid-19 shutdown. The Historical Society Board has taken the unprecedented action of furloughing our employees since April. Executive Director, Pamela Littlefield Gasner and Database Manager, Amy Dugan will be returning to work October 1st. The museum is closed during the winter months but we will be working on our grants from the Champlin Foundation for storm windows and the 1772 Foundation/Preserve RI for restoration of the cupola in 2021. We have been discussing possibilities at (virtual) board meetings over the summer of creating virtual exhibits on Block Island’s early history, the Old Harbor walking tour and new narratives on Black and Manissean family histories.
We look forward to opening our doors but we do not know when that will happen. In the meantime, please visit us at Facebook — we have two separate pages, our “official” page is managed by our staff, the other, a membership page, where we invite folks to share photos and memories of Block Island is handled by Board members and volunteers and is currently active. Every effort will be made to answer questions posed on Facebook but please remember our resources are extremely limited at this time. Email: email@example.com
And, as always, visit our website www.blockislandhistorical.org
Please consider joining as a member in 2020-2021. Benefits include discounts in The Museum Shop, free admission, family history research assistance and discounts on our tours and programs. Tours are suspended at this time.
