History Happening Here
***August 13,2020 House & Garden Tour: Southwest Point 10am to 3pm.On Hold until further notice***
Thank you for your interest in the Block Island Historical Society. We all value everyone who shares our love of this place and its heritage.
Currently, the Town of New Shoreham and the State of Rhode Island are in the early stages of a phased re-opening after the Covid-19 shutdown. The Historical Society Board has taken the unprecedented action of furloughing our employees. The museum is always closed in the off-season but we have also closed our offices with no set re-opening date. We will be discussing possibilities at a (virtual) board meeting on May 27 and hope to have more definitive information available soon thereafter.
We look forward to opening our doors but we do not know when that will happen. In the meantime, please visit us at Facebook — we have two separate pages, our “official” page is managed by our staff, the other, a membership page, where we invite folks to share photos and memories of Block Island is handled by volunteers and is currently active. Every effort will be made to answer questions posed on Facebook but please remember our resources are extremely limited at this time.
And, as always, visit our website www.blockislandhistorical.org.
Please consider joining as a member in 2020. Benefits include discounts in The Museum Shop, free admission, family history research assistance and discounts on our tours and programs.
