2022 Block Island electric vehicle subsidies available
Transportation accounts for more than a quarter of all U.S. greenhouse gas emissions. By switching from vehicles powered by gasoline
to those powered by electricity, each of us can make a significant change in our personal environmental impact. The adoption of EVs today, along with the electrification of other energy-demanding appliances, offers us a chance at a cleaner tomorrow. This electrification must, of course, be paired with a simultaneous and serious effort to adopt renewable technologies for electricity generation. In order to
promote a better future, the Solar Initiative is thrilled to announce a new subsidy toward the purchase or lease of an electric vehicle for use
on Block Island.
With gasoline prices nearing record highs, it makes economic sense to switch from an internal combustion engine vehicle (ICEV) to an EV. Adopting EVs along with renewable generation technologies will act to reduce and stabilize vehicular operating costs, as the consumer will not be beholden to oil and gas pricing. EVs require minimal maintenance when compared to ICEVs, further increasing potential savings.
Modern EVs are free of tailpipe emissions without compromising functionality. They are practical, economical, and environmentally friendly. Electric vehicles come in all shapes and sizes, from compact cars to pickup trucks. Block Island is an ideal locale for the early adoption of EVs due to minimal range requirements for most island applications. EVs can be charged using a regular 120-volt household outlet. To achieve faster charging, a 240-volt (level 2) charger can be installed in most homes.
For a limited time, the Solar Initiative is offering $300 per month for up to 36 months toward an EV loan or lease. Any EV acquired with assistance from this program must be a four-wheeled vehicle that is able to be registered for road use in the State of Rhode Island and is powered exclusively with electricity supplied by an internal battery pack. This program is limited to 20 recipients. The application process
is open through May 21, 2022. Applications can be submitted online at www.thesolarinitiativebi.com/subsidies. To apply, click ‘Apply Now’ in the ‘Electric Vehicles (2022)’ section of the above webpage.
