Almost a record

To the Editor,
We have wonderful news to share about our latest blood drive. We received 45 units! This missed our all-time record of 47 in 2014. At that time, there was a very young boy on the island with leukemia. The turnout was extraordinary and the boy battled his way through the disease and is fine. Certainly, there were some summer visitors who donated and helped us reach the 45 units. We did set one record, which was 52 scheduled appointments. Deepest thanks to each person who donated. We do have a blood shortage, so this helps a great deal.
We will hold an extra blood drive on August 11 at the Harbor Church. Donors at the July 1 drive will not be eligible because more time is needed between donations. They will be eligible for the next regular blood drive in September.
Once again, thank you for saving so many lives.
