Alt-country music at the Harbor Church

Thu, 11/30/2017 - 1:30pm

Dave Richardson, a singer of folk and alt-country music, will make his way from Vermont to the Common Ground Coffeehouse on Friday, Dec. 1, to perform at 7 p.m. He has lived in Maine, Colorado, Massachusetts, and New York; the places he’s traveled and the people he has encountered feature prominently in his songs. Dave invites listeners to experience snippets of life through his songs: a fragment of overheard conversation, the recollection of a feeling, a snapshot of an event.

Richardson has a new CD about to be released called “Carry Me Along,” which follows “Stay a While” (2010) and “Well” (2013). He has performed at dozens of coffeehouses in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine, with occasional forays as far south as Lowell and Cambridge, but this will be his debut in Rhode Island. He performed in November at the New England Regional Folk Alliance convention in Stamford, Conn. He was awarded third place in the 2017 Woody Guthrie Folk Festival Songwriting Contest and was invited to perform at the festival in Oklahoma.

Richardson will sing a couple of songs at the Library Holiday Party beginning at 5 p.m. Library friends and patrons are encouraged to migrate to Harbor Church for more fun after the party. A complimentary chili and hot dog supper will be served beginning at 6:30 p.m. and available during performance. There is no charge, but donations for the musician are encouraged.
