Anne Perpetua Tretheway, 72
Anne Perpetua Tretheway passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at the age of 72. Anne was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on March 10, 1948. She was one of five children. She is survived by her three brothers, Gerard, Peter, and Robert. Her sister, Miriam, predeceased her.
Raised and educated Catholic, she attended St. Patrick’s Grammar School, Fontbonne Hall Academy High School for Girls, and then St. John’s University. She interrupted her education to embark on her first full-time career, that of raising her family. She later completed her education and commenced on her second full-time career as a case worker for the Union County Department of Human Services in New Jersey. Anne’s favorite thing to do in life was to help. She was truly a problem solver and a giver with family, friends and her career.
Her family’s property on Block Island was purchased back in 1928 by Anne’s grandmother Katherine Thormann and sister May Mehrtens. The property was passed down to her parents, Marie Thormann Johnson and Arnold Johnson. She was truly blessed to spend every summer of her life on Block Island.
After retiring in 2010, she was able to spend the rest of her days right here in her favorite place. If she could, Anne would thank everyone who made her feel as though she was part of the “Block Island family.”
Anne is survived by her son Christopher and wife Nicole, son Richard and wife Patricia; granddaughters Lindsay and Madison. We all miss Grandma T.
A service remembering Anne and to celebrate her life will take place at a later date with a burial at the Island Cemetery.
For everyone who asked if there was anything they can do, just do something nice for someone. A donation to The Mary D. Fund, help a friend or neighbor in need, send someone a card or simply pick up the phone and make that long overdue phone call to a loved one. Anne always felt that the smallest gestures made the biggest gifts.
