Announcing our new intern
The Solar Initiative is pleased to announce that our intern for the summer of 2021 is Ian Murphy.
Ian has a long history of connection with Block Island, coming out quite frequently in his teen years when his grandparents, the Devlins, owned a home on the island. Since entering college, Ian has come out each summer to work in construction and lawn maintenance.
Ian has finished his junior year at Bucknell University where he is majoring in environmental engineering. He is taking his environmental studies very seriously, being a Dean’s Scholar and on the Dean’s list every time the dean comes out with a list! His high school GPA and SAT scores were in the highest echelon, also. It is great to have bright young minds who care about the well-being of the environment enough to volunteer their intellectual and physical efforts to further renewable and sustainable energy usage.
Ian says: “I want to be on the forefront of what I care about: harmony with the environment.” Why intern with the Solar Initiative? “My environmental engineering coursework has given me a better understanding of renewable energy technology; I would appreciate the opportunity to improve upon that understanding and gain some hands-on experience by working with the Solar Initiative.”
Ian will be working on installations, promotions and advertising, following up on inquiries, web page expansion, and doing some community-based research. Ian will also be involved in shaping our next series of subsidies, going into effect next month.
Welcome, Ian. Great to have you aboard!
The Solar Initiative offers subsidies to Block Island homeowners to further renewable energy usage and to reduce fossil fuel consumption through PV (photovoltaic) and heat pump installations.
