Ben Wohlberg to show new works
An opening reception will be held on Saturday, July 27, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the studio home of Ben Wohlberg on Payne Road. This show, featuring new work, will be on display through Sunday, Aug. 4 and will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. daily, or by appointment through Labor Day.
In addition to Block Island, Wohlberg has shown in New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Virginia and the Bahamas. He was also the subject of a Rhode Island PBS film shot and edited by island residents Joe and Tricia Wiedenmayer. The PBS documentary, as well as additional abstract paintings, can be seen at benwohlberg.com.
Using a technique he calls underpainting, Wohlberg creates paintings of such dimension, one feels it is possible to walk into and become part of each work. Wohlberg’s paintings can be found in corporate and private collections throughout Europe, the Bahamas, and the United States.
Wohlberg often jokes that people come to his studio not to see his work but to walk through his beautiful gardens, which also feature his sculptures. All will be on display and are a delight to the senses.
