Bids sought for Southeast Lighthouse work

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation, in cooperation with the Southeast Lighthouse Foundation, is pleased to announce that restoration work will get underway at Southeast Light in the new year.
Scheduled work will focus primarily on lighthouse tower elements and will include restoration, repair and/or recasting of deteriorated cast iron decking at the watch and lantern levels; installation of newly cast historic tower railings, doors, ladder and additional cast iron components; restoration of interior watch room masonry and select exterior re-pointing.

All prospective contractors will need to attend a mandatory site visit at Southeast Lighthouse on Nov. 28, 2017.
Funding provided by RIDOT is from the Transportation Alternatives Program, which supports a wide variety of projects and programs that support safe and efficient transportation while improving the beauty and vitality of a road, square or village center. Historic preservation of transportation features, such as old train stations and lighthouses, is part of this program. Repairs to the Southeast Lighthouse is made possible by RhodeWorks, RIDOT's ongoing commitment to repair structurally deficient bridges and bring Rhode Island's transportation infrastructure into a state of good repair, promote economic development, and create jobs.
