Kids Yoga
Kids Yoga is held on Fridays at 10 a.m. for toddlers and 10:30 a.m. for pre-school age kids at the Island Free Library.  These events are free and everyone is welcome.  

Common Ground Coffeehouse
On Friday, April 29, at Common Ground Coffeehouse, Block Island School senior Ryan McGarry will reprise two of the poems he learned in order to compete in Poetry Out Loud in 2015.  A professional dancer from the community will put poetry into motion. All are invited to enjoy a light supper at 6:30 p.m. and to listen to poems from 7 to 8 p.m. Have a salad, some veggies, or a dessert to share? Please bring them along.

Helping Hands Food Pantry
The Helping Hands Food Pantry will be open every other Wednesday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Harbor Church. The next open date is Wednesday, May 4.

Lunch Bunch & Soup Group
Lunch Bunch is on Tuesdays at 12:30 p.m. at the Community Center. Soup Group is on Fridays at 12:30 p.m.

Boys Varsity plays Blackstone Valley Prep on Saturday, April 30, at 10:30 a.m. Girls Varsity plays Juanita Sanchez on Saturday, April 30, at 12:30 p.m. Boys Varsity plays Highlander on Monday, May 2, at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Boys Varsity plays Grove on Friday, May 6, at 12:30 p.m. Girls Varsity plays Central Falls on Saturday, May 7, at 12:30 p.m. All games are played at Heinz Field.

Bridge Classes
Margie Comings will be teaching six beginning bridge classes Tuesday mornings from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. at the Island Free Library starting Tuesday, April 19. Call 466-2163 or email comingsbi@verizon.net to signup.

Motorcycle Safety Course
The Recreation Department would like to bring a motorcycle safety course to the island. The course is given by CCRI, and is 16.5 hours over two days. If enough people are interested, the class may be held in May or early June. Call the Recreation Department office at 466-3223.

Bird Walk & Banding
The Ocean View Foundation is hosting a bird walk and bird banding experience celebrating the beginning of the 50th year of the bird banding station started by Elise Lapham. Saturday, April 30, at 9 a.m. Meet at the Clay Head Trail parking area, off Corn Neck Rd. For questions call 401-595-7055.

Spring Tea
On Saturday, April 30, from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Harbor Church there will be a Spring Tea and Raffle sponsored by the Harbor Church Women’s Group. Take a moment, bring a friend and enjoy a lovely luncheon to celebrate the tastes and colors of Spring! Raffle tickets available for our Spring Gardening Gift Basket.

Bereaved Parents Group
The Bereaved Parents Group will meet on Sunday, May 1, at 3 p.m. at St. Ann's By-The-Sea.

Block Island School Senior Projects
One of the requirements for graduation from the Block Island School is an extended project in an area of student interest during the senior year. The project consists of work with a mentor, a research paper, and an oral presentation. The public is invited to view this year’s Senior Project presentations on Tuesday, May 3, from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the school cafeteria.

Blood Drive
There will be a blood drive in the Block Island School gym on Thursday, May 5, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. You must be at least 16 years old to donate blood. If you are under 17 years old you will need a permission slip signed by a guardian. Please bring a driver's license or some other form of Identification with you when you donate.

Chili Fest
The Block Island School’s annual Chili-Fest Challenge is back. On Thursday, May 5, from 5 to 7 p.m., come and enjoy a variety of tasty chilis all served in handmade bowls, that you get to keep, created by the ceramics students. If you have a chili recipe recipe that you would like to enter in the chili-challenge, please contact Lisa at 466-2629. Prizes will awarded for best recipes!

Spring Dance
Friday, May 6, from 8 to 10:30 p.m. at the Block Island School cafeteria. There will be a DJ and Refreshments. Grades 7 to 12; $5/person.

Understanding Islam Talk
Block Island Ecumenical Ministries invites everyone to a forum on the subject of “Understanding Islam” at the St. Andrew Parish Center, Saturday, May 7, from 12 to 2 p.m., beginning with a light complimentary lunch. The presenter will be Imam Qutaiba Albluwi, the Muslim Chaplain at URI and the imam of the Kingston Islamic Center. Free and open to the public.

Pasta Dinner
The annual Pasta Dinner fundraiser for the Block Island Early Learning Center is on Tuesday, May 10, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Oar.
