Common Ground Coffeehouse
Common Ground Coffeehouse at Harbor Church will have a Spaghetti Dinner Friday, May 6, at 6:30 p.m. (Pay what you wish). There will be a variety of sauces and meatballs. At 7 p.m. singer-songwriter John Fuzek will perform. Donations for the musician are encouraged.

Helping Hands Food Pantry
The Helping Hands Food Pantry will be open every other Wednesday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Harbor Church. The Last open date is Wednesday, May 18.

Boys Varsity plays Grove on Friday, May 6, at 12:30 p.m. Boys JV plays Jamestown on Saturday, May 7, at 10:30 a.m. Girls Varsity plays Central Falls on Saturday, May 7, at 12:30 p.m. Girls Varsity plays Hope on Friday, May 13, at 12:30 p.m. Girls JV plays Wickford on Saturday, May 14, at 10:30 a.m. Boys Varsity plays Marianapolis on Saturday, May 14, at 12:30 p.m. All games are played at Heinz Field.

Motorcycle Safety Course
The Recreation Department would like to bring a motorcycle safety course to the island. The course is given by CCRI, and is 16.5 hours over two days. If enough people are interested, the class may be held in May or early June. Call the Recreation Department office at 466-3223.

Frederick J. Benson Memorial Scholarship Applications
The Frederick J. Benson Memorial Scholarship Committee is accepting applications for 2016. You can stop by Ballard Hall Real Estate or contact Michele Phelan at 741-6577 and one can be mailed. The DEADLINE is June 11.

Spring Dance
Friday, May 6, from 8 to 10:30 p.m. at the Block Island School cafeteria. There will be a DJ and Refreshments. Grades 7 to 12; $5/person.

Understanding Islam Talk
Block Island Ecumenical Ministries invites everyone to a forum on the subject of “Understanding Islam” at the St. Andrew Parish Center, Saturday, May 7, from 12 to 2 p.m., beginning with a light complimentary lunch. The presenter will be Imam Qutaiba Albluwi, the Muslim Chaplain at URI and the imam of the Kingston Islamic Center. Free and open to the public.

The annual Pasta Dinner fundraiser for the Block Island Early Learning Center is on Tuesday, May 10, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Oar.

Mason's Movers Benefit Dinner
Come join us for dinner, drinks, an amazing raffle, and some amazing musical talents to benefit team Mason's Movers for MDA Team Momentum. Mason's Movers will be participating in the Boston Run to Remember Half Marathon on Sunday May 29. Poor Peoples Pub will be donating 10% of their sales for all food that evening. Mason’s Movers is named for Mason Miro who was diagnosed with a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy in 2011. Friday, May 13, at 5 p.m. at Poor Peoples Pub.

Shad Bloom 10K Trail Race

The Shad Bloom 10K Trail Race will be held on Saturday, May 14, at 1 p.m. at the Block Island School. Register at www.active.com or at the Recreation Office at the Town Hall.

Conservancy Day
Join the Nature Conservancy on Saturday, May 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Narragansett Inn as they gather together to celebrate conservation on Block Island and this year's Bayberry Wreath Award Winner, Gail Ballard Hall. All are welcome!

Well Water Testing

Your drinking water tastes and smells fine but, when was the last time you had it tested?  And, what should it be tested for and where?  These questions and others will be answered by water quality experts from URI and the RI Department of Health at a free program co-sponsored by the Island Free Library on Tuesday, May 17, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Island Free Library.

AARP Smart Driver Course
The Senior Advisory Committee is sponsoring the AARP Smart Driver Course on Wednesday, May 18, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Community Center. A light lunch will be provided.
