Common Ground Coffeehouse
Island singer-songwriter, drummer and Jack-of-all-trades, Dave Flamand will perform at Common Ground Coffeehouse on Friday, June 10, at 7 p.m. We are now offering dinner in two settings, one at 6 p.m. for international students and another at 6:30 p.m. for music fans and latecomers. Donations for the musician are encouraged.

Summer Sport Leagues
The Block Island Recreation Department is sponsoring a co-ed softball league, 4 versus 4 summer beach volleyball, adult basketball league, and 7 versus 7 soccer league. All leagues are 16 plus. Registration forms available at town recreation office. 466-3223.

Benson Scholarship Applications

The Eco Depot will be at the Block Island Transfer Station on Saturday, June 11, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Drop off your household hazardous waste.

Tai Chi Class
Internationally acclaimed Maedée Duprès leads “The Transformative Healing Power of Tai Chi,” Saturday, June 11, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m, St. Andrew Parish Center. Open to the public. Farmers’ Market
Block Island Farmers’ Market starts on Saturday, June 11, and runs every Wednesday and Saturday all season. The Wednesday market is on the Spring House Lawn and the Saturday market is at Legion Park. Both are from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

Block Island School Graduation
The class of 2016 will be graduating from the Block Island School on Sunday, June 12, at 2:30 p.m. at the Sullivan House. The public is welcome!

Bite Of Block Island Food Show
The Block Island Times sponsors “A Bite of Block Island” at the BIMI Center on Sunday, June 12, from 4 to 6 p.m. This is a fundraiser for the Helping Hands Food Pantry. Tickets are $15 and are available at The Block Island Times office and the Chamber of Commerce.

International Student Orientation
All island businesses that employ international students are asked to send a representative to an orientation session on Tuesday, June 14, at 10 a.m. at Harbor Church. Mike James, from the State Department in DC will speak on the J-1 program and address concerns. Several sponsor agencies will also be represented. Hosted by the BI International Student Worker Coalition. Breakfast items provided. There will be a separate dinner and orientation for the students beginning at 6 p.m.

Block Island Restaurant Week

Social Security Help
Social Security will be at the Block Island Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, June 16, and Thursday, June 23, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. They will be there to help answer any Social Security questions and to help people fill out forms.

PPP ‘90s Night Fundraiser
All ‘90s all night, Friday, June 17, at 10 p.m. with DJ Libre. A night to raise funds for our good friend and employee Julia, who, after an accident this spring, is now paralyzed from the waist down. We will be donating 10 percent of the nights sales to help with Julia’s medical bills. So come feeling generous and ready to party!

Music Festival
The Block Island Music Festival runs from June 14 to 19, at Captain Nick’s. There is live music with different bands playing every hour from 5 p.m. to closing. This is a free festival.

Ponds & Their Amazing Creatures
Discover the fascinating nature of Block Island. June 18, at 9 a.m. at the Hodge Preserve. Wear shorts and water shoes.

Spring Plant Swap
Join the Block Island Gardeners for the annual Spring Plant Swap at the home of Maude and Ray Chasse, off Spring Street, to be held Saturday, June 18, from 10:30 to 12 noon, rain or shine.  Don't have a plant to swap? Parkinson’s Disease Discussion
Mary Ellen Thibodeau, Nurse Coordinator for the American Parkinson’s Disease Association will talk about the many symptoms and types of the disease. She will discuss how boxing and exercise has helped many patients with Parkinsons. On Monday, June 20, at 1 p.m. at the Community Center.

Historical Society Open Exhibit
The Block Island Historical Society Opening Exhibit is on Saturday, June 25, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Taize Prayer Service
Taize Prayer Service will be held on Wednesday, June 22, at 7 p.m. at St. Ann’s By-The-Sea.

Gallery Openings
There is a gallery opening on Thursday, June 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Spring Street Gallery featuring paintings by Susan Coffin. There is a gallery opening on Thursday, June 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Jessie Edwards Studio featuring paintings by Fred Poisson. There is a gallery opening on Saturday, July 2, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Spring Street Gallery featuring paintings by Ted Merrit and Photography by Lisa Sprague.

Donations For Legion Yard Sale
American Legion Auxiliary annual yard sale is on June 24 and 25, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The yard sale will be at the corner of Ocean Ave. and Connecticut Ave. (not Legion Park). Donations can be made morning of the sale. For early donations or help with large items, call Rheba McKernan at 466-5920.

Night Sky Viewing

There will be a night sky viewing on Saturday, June 25, at 9 p.m. at the Hodge Preserve. Bring insect repellant, blanket and/or beach chair for your comfort. Program will be the following night if the sky conditions are poor.

Not New Boutique
The Not New Boutique will be open on Wednesdays in July and August from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Andrew Parish Center.

Independence Day Events
The Fireworks Picnic is on July 3, at 6:30 p.m. at the BIMI Center. The fireworks are being held on July 3, at dusk( around 9 p.m.). The Parade begins at 11 a.m. on July 4, at Legion Park and ends on Water St. The Annual Steak Fry starts on July 4, at 12:30 p.m. at the BIVFD at the Fire Barn. 

Toe Jam Puppet Band
The Toe Jam Puppet Band will be preforming on July 5, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Island Free Library.
