Common Ground Coffeehouse
Come hear music of two of the best balladeers of the 70's in a Lightfoot-Croce Tribute Concert by Rainy Day People at Harbor Church on Friday, Oct. 14, at 7:30 p.m. Please note the 7:30 p.m. start and that there will be no supper served this night. Admission will be by ticket, $10 in advance from the church, $15 at the door.

Hurricane Home Games
There is a Varsity Soccer Game on Friday, Oct. 14, at 12:45 p.m. against Oxford. All games are played at Heinz Field.

Tai Chi Classes
Every Friday at the Community Center at 4 p.m. The classes are outside depending on the weather. Any age and beginners are welcome. Donations cover the costs. Studies show Tai Chi helps balance, blood pressure, depression, back pain, mood disorders, and sleep apnea. For more information contact Tom Hobin, PT at (720) 352-8707. 

Gardening Recap
On Saturday, Oct. 15, 4 p.m. at the Community Center, the Block Island Gardeners are sponsoring an informal discussion of what went right and wrong during the gardening season. Share your experience.  Always good tips for next year. Non-members welcome. Wine and cheese will be served.

Free Lyme Disease Testing
There will be free Lyme and Babesiosis testing at the B.I. Medical center on Sunday, Oct. 16, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. People age 18 and older are welcome to attend. All people who have participated in the Yale/BIMC sponsored serosurvey in the past are encouraged to return.

Community Pot Luck
The Ocean View Foundation is having thier Community Pot Luck on Sunday, Oct. 16 at noon at the Ocean View Pavilion. All are welcome!

Helping Hands Food Pantry
Helping Hands Food Pantry starts Wednesday, Oct. 19, and is open every other Wednesday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Harbor Church.

American Legion Meeting
Merrill Slate American Legion Post 36 will have its monthly meeting Thursday, Oct. 20, at 5:15 p.m. at the Legion Hall on West Side Rd. All visiting military and veterans are invited to join us.

Island Free Library events
1. On Tuesday, Oct 18, at 5 p.m. An event about architecture and community with Jan Wampler. What does your Block Island look like? Come meet with Dr. Wampler and hear him speak about the community center models, his architectural career and his newly released book.
2. The Friends of the Island Free Library are pleased to present Ray Rickman’s “Value of the Book” program on Saturday, Oct. 22, 3 p.m. at the Library. Mr. Rickman will cover what makes a book valuable and what types of books have the highest retail value. He will offer complimentary estimates of up to three of your books’ market value.

Scenic Block Island Annual meeting
Scenic Block Island's Annual meeting to discuss plans for 2017 will be held at Sharon and John Lehman's home on October 23, from 4 to 5 p.m.

Roll Call Dinner
The entire island is invited to share in a complete turkey dinner at the annual Roll Call Dinner at Harbor Church on Tuesday, Oct. 25,  from 5 to 7 p.m. The meal a full turkey dinner with all the fixing. Taize Prayer Service
Taize Prayer Service is being held on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 5 p.m. at St. Ann’s By-The-Sea.

Halloween Parties
The annual Yellow Kittens Halloween Party is on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. There is a $10 cover at the door to benefit the B.I. Volunteer Fire Department. There is also a Halloween Party at The Spring House Hotel on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 9:30 p.m. $10 cover.

Lunch Bunch
Lunch Bunch begins Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 12:30 p.m. at the B.I. Community Center.

Hunter Safety Course
The Recreation Department is sponsoring a Hunter Safety Course. It is a two day class given by the Department of Environmental Management. The dates are  Saturday, Nov. 19, from 2 to 8 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 20, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. ( must attend both classes) at the Island Free Library . The cost is $35.
