Common Ground Coffeehouse
Friday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m., Common Ground Coffeehouse will show the newly-released movie "The Beatles: Eight Days a Week—The Touring Years". This documentary is directed by Oscar winner Ron Howard and is based on many clips of Beatle performances not available until now. Soup and goodies served at 6:30 p.m. No charge.

Helping Hands Food Pantry
The next Helping Hands Food Pantry date is Wednesday, Nov. 30. Helping Hands Food Pantry is open every other Wednesday from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the Harbor Church.
Sundays from 2 to 5 p.m. and Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m the Island Free Library will be holding Power Hours for Scholars. Staff will be on hand to supervise and facilitate research, monitor group projects, and answer basic comprehension questions.
Lunch Bunch is every Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at the Community Center. There is no Lunch Bunch on Tuesday, Nov. 22. It will resume Tuesday, Nov. 29.

Hunter Safety Course
The Recreation Dept. is sponsoring a Hunter Safety Course. It is a two-day class given by the DEM. Saturday, Nov. 19, from 2 to 8 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 20, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Island Free Library. For more information call 466-3223.
The Block Island Ecumenical Choir's Concert of Thanksgiving and Remembrance is on Sunday, Nov. 20, at 3 p.m. at St. Andrew Parish Center. Collation to follow the concert. All arte welcome.
B.I. School Friends Holiday Fundraisers
There is a Pie Sale on Tuesday, Nov. 22, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Wednesday, Nov.23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Island Free Library. The Holiday Greens and Plant Sale is on Nov. 29 to Dec. 1, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the school lobby. Hurricanes clothing will be available at all sales.
Thanksgiving Oyster Benefit
On Tuesday, Nov. 22, Sun Farm Oysters will be having its annual Thanksgiving oyster benefit for Block Island based non-profits starting at 4 p.m. at the parking lot between Washington Trust and Old Island Pub. A dozen oysters can be purchased for a donation of $5.
The 16th Annual Thanksgiving Beach Walk to honor the Late Capt. John R. “Rob” Lewis is on Friday Nov. 25, at 9 a.m. Meet at the Town Beach Pavilion. Join us to celebrate this great man, who inspired so many people to donate land and resources to support conservation on this beautiful island. (weather permitting).
Holiday Open House
Friday Nov. 25, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the 1661 Inn on Spring Street. The Nature Conservancy is hosting an Open House to give thanks to the Island community for supporting our program. Please stop by after the shopping stroll for some holiday cheer!
Holiday Shopping Stroll
Many stores will be open for the holiday stroll over the three day weekend of Friday, Nov. 25, to Sunday, Nov. 27. There are lots of great deals and also some holiday treats. Many stores will also be open every Tuesday night in Dec. for holiday shopping.
The winter market is on Saturday, Nov. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Island Free Library. The Winter Market is also open every Tuesday night in Dec. along with the other stores in town.
The annual 5K Turkey Trot will be held on Saturday, Nov. 26. Starting time is at 1 p.m. at the Fred Benson Town Beach. Registration is at Active.com. Remember to register early to secure your race T-shirt. See you at the starting line!

Library Holiday Party

BIYC Maritime Scholarship
Applications for the BIYC Maritime Scholarship will be accepted until Feb. 1, 2017. Students who have already graduated from the Block Island School, intend to pursue maritime careers, and are currently enrolled in a college undergraduate maritime program are eligible.
