Common Ground Coffee House
Common Ground Coffeehouse on Friday, Jan. 6, at 7 p.m. will show the movie "Florence Foster Jenkins." The film received Golden Globe nominations for Best Picture/Comedy, Best Actress (Meryl Streep), Best Actor (Hugh Grant), and Best Supporting Actor (Simon Helberg). A supper of turkey soup will be served at 6:30 p.m.
Amnesty Month at Library
January is Amnesty Month at the Island Free Library. All current fines will be waved. The library asks that instead of paying fines please bring in a non-perishable food item for the Helping Hands Food Pantry.

Helping Hands Food Pantry
The next Helping Hands Food Pantry is Wednesday, Jan. 11. Helping Hands Food Pantry is open every other Wednesday from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the Harbor Church.
Sundays from 2 to 5 p.m. and Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m the Island Free Library will be holding Power Hours for Scholars. Staff will be on hand to supervise and facilitate research, monitor group projects, and answer basic comprehension questions. Enter through the side door.
Lunch Bunch is every Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at the Community Center.

Service Honoring Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Block Island Ecumenical Ministries invites the community to a service honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Sunday, Jan. 8, at 3 p.m. at the Harbor Church. Rev. Jabulani McCallister and Rev. Nikita McCallister will be speaking.
BIYC Maritime Scholarship
Applications for the B.I. Yacht Club Maritime Scholarship will be accepted until Feb. 1, 2017. Students who have graduated from the Block Island School, intend to pursue maritime careers, and are currently enrolled in a college undergraduate maritime program are eligible.
