Common Ground Coffee House
Common Ground Coffeehouse on Friday, Jan. 13, at 7 p.m. will show the movie "Hell or High Water" a western heist film about two brothers who begin to rob banks. It received Golden Globe nominations for Best Picture/Drama, Best Actor, and Best Screenplay. No supper is planned.
2017 July 4th celebration
The theme of this year’s parade is "Block Island memories.” Fireworks will be held on July 2 (rain date July 3). Donations are needed to reserve bands and fireworks. Please send to Double Ender Committee, PO Box 808, BI, RI 02807.
Amnesty Month at Library
January is Amnesty Month at the Island Free Library. All current fines will be waved. The library asks that instead of paying fines please bring in a non-perishable food item for the Helping Hands Food Pantry.

Helping Hands Food Pantry
The next Helping Hands Food Pantry is Wednesday, Jan. 25. Helping Hands Food Pantry is open every other Wednesday from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the Harbor Church.
Sundays from 2 to 5 p.m. and Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m the Island Free Library will be holding Power Hours for Scholars. Staff will be on hand to supervise and facilitate research, monitor group projects, and answer basic comprehension questions. Enter through the side door.
Lunch Bunch is every Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at the Community Center.

Sunday, Jan. 15, from 2 to 4 p.m. celebrate Block Island’s first “Dog Day" at Island Bound Bookstore. Mutt Hut and Island Bound Bookstore have joined forces, featuring a display of books about dogs, as well as offering the opportunity to tell your best friend’s stories. There will be refreshments and, of course, a treat to take home to your buddy.

North End Winter Walk
Hike to see the unique creatures only here in winter. Sponsored by the James Stover Exploration Series. Saturday, Jan. 21, at 10 a.m. Meet at the Hodge Preserve parking lot on Corn Neck Rd.
Bow Hunter Safety Course
The Recreation Department is sponsoring a Bow Hunter Safety Course. The class is two days. Saturday Feb. 18, will be an Archery Proficiency test and Sunday, Feb. 19, will be classroom instruction. The cost is $35.00 per person. The DEM requires a minimum of 10 students. Deadline for registration is Friday, Feb. 10. Registration forms will be available at the Recreation office or online at new-shoreham.com.
BIYC Maritime Scholarship
Applications for the B.I. Yacht Club Maritime Scholarship will be accepted until Feb. 1, 2017. Students who have graduated from the Block Island School, intend to pursue maritime careers, and are currently enrolled in a college undergraduate maritime program are eligible.
