Common Ground Coffee House
On Friday, April 21, at 7 p.m. the Common Ground Coffeehouse presents “Hidden Figures,” the feel-good story of African-American women mathematicians who overcame the limits of Jim Crow Virginia and played a key role in early NASA missions. It stars Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monáe, and Kevin Kostner, and was a Best Picture nominee. For all ages, rated PG. A complimentary supper will be served at 6:30 p.m.
Peanut Butter Drive
Washington Trust is having their annual Peanut Butter Drive. Please drop off new jars of peanut butter in the lobby of Washington Trust during business hours over the next few weeks. All jars collected will go to the Helping Hands Food Pantry.
Sundays from 2 to 5 p.m. and Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m., the Island Free Library will be holding Power Hours for Scholars. Staff will be on hand to supervise and facilitate research, monitor group projects, and answer basic comprehension questions. Enter through the side door.
The Island Free Library is hosting discussions about the latest technology and digital devices every Wednesday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Free advice and free tips. Everyone is welcome!
Lunch Bunch is held every Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at the Community Center.

The Girls Varsity Softball will be playing Hope on Saturday, April 29, at 12:30 p.m. The Boys Varsity Baseball will be playing Highlander on Monday, May, 1, at 12:30 p.m. The Boys Varsity Baseball will be playing Times Squared Academy on Friday, May 5, at 12:30 p.m. The Girls Varsity Softball will be playing Paul Cuffee on Saturday, May 6, at 12:30 p.m. All games are played at Heinz Field.
Earth Day Block Island
A series of events will be taking place on Saturday, April 22, to commemorate Earth Day. Bird banding at Clay Head Trail at 9 a.m.; March for Science starting at the Statue of Rebecca at noon; Island Clean-Up starting at the Solviken Property at 1 p.m.; Pot Luck Dinner at the Island Free Library at 5 p.m.; and a documentary film at the Library at 7 p.m.
A Call to Caregivers
The Senior Advisory Committee invites caregivers and family and friends of seniors to a luncheon meeting/workshop with Maryann Seebeck, Rn., at noon on Monday, April 24, at the Community

Film & Soup
Film and Soup will be showing Racing Extinction on Tuesday, April 25, at 6:30 p.m. at the Island Free Library. Bring a spoon and bowl/cup for sharing the soup.
Taize Prayer Service
There will be a Taize Prayer Service on Wednesday, April 26, at 5 p.m. at St. Ann’s By-The-Sea.
Voices from the Village
Community members, not usually associated with poetry, read their favorite poems, most by famous poets. Friday, April 28, at 7p.m. at the Harbor Church. Event arranged and MC'd by Nancy Greenaway. Voices from past years have included those of a ferry captain, a chief of police, a postmaster, a piano teacher, a real estate agent, a deli manager, a science teacher.
The 007’s will be playing at Club Soda on Saturday, April 29, at 10 p.m.
A spontaneous gathering of island poets and those who wish to listen to them read their original work (For more info, contact Nancy Greenaway.) Sunday, April 30, from noon to 1:30 p.m., at the Island Free Library (Enter at side door.)
Four Legs to Stand On
This deeply moving play about one family's struggle with their son's opioid addiction will be performed by Creating Outreach About Addiction Support Together on Saturday, May 6, at 6:30 p.m. at Block Island Maritime Institute. The 35min performance with a 20min talk back with the actors and playwright is sponsored by the Block Island Wellness Coalition, Block Island Medical Center, and NAMI BI. Everyone is welcome. Block Island School students and their families are encouraged to attend.
The Bereavement Group will be meeting on Sunday, May 7, at 3 p.m. at St. Ann’s By-The-Sea.
2017 July 4th celebration
The theme of this year’s parade is “Block Island Memories.” Fireworks will be held on Sunday, July 2 (rain date July 3). Donations are needed to reserve bands and fireworks: Double Ender Committee, PO Box 808, Block Island, R.I. 02807.
