Common Ground Coffee House   
Common Ground Coffeehouse presents Voices from the Village on Friday, April 28, at 7 p.m. at Harbor Church. Organized by Nancy Greenaway in honor of National Poetry Month, the program features surprise adult readers of favorite poems and several students from the Block Island School. Complimentary supper served at 6:30 p.m.

Study Hall 
Sundays from 2 to 5 p.m. and Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m., the Island Free Library will be holding Power Hours for Scholars. Staff will be on hand to supervise and facilitate research, monitor group projects, and answer basic comprehension questions. Enter through the side door.

Lunch Bunch    
Lunch Bunch is held every Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at the Community Center.

Hurricanes Home Games   
The Girls Varsity Softball will be playing Hope on Saturday, April 29, at 12:30 p.m. The Boys Varsity Baseball will be playing Highlander on Monday, May, 1, at 12:30 p.m. The Boys Varsity Baseball will be playing Times Squared Academy on Friday, May 5, at 12:30 p.m. The Girls Varsity Softball will be playing Paul Cuffee on Saturday, May 6, at 12:30 p.m. All games are played at Heinz Field.

Voices from the Village 
Community members, not usually associated with poetry, read their favorite poems, most by famous poets. Friday, April 28, at 7p.m. at the Harbor Church. Event arranged and MC’d by Nancy Greenaway. Voices from past years have included those of a ferry captain, a chief of police, a postmaster, a piano teacher, a real estate agent, a deli manager, and a science teacher.

Beach Party
The annual Club Soda Beach Party is being held on Saturday, April 29, at 10 p.m. With live music by the 007’s. This is a benefit for the Block Island Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Impromptu Poetry 
A spontaneous gathering of island poets and those who wish to listen to them read their original work. Sunday, April 30, from noon to 1:30 p.m., at the Island Free Library. Enter at the side door. For more info, contact Nancy Greenaway at nwalkergreenaway@gmail.com

Crazy-As-A-Coot Bird Walk

BI School Senior Project Presentations
The community is invited to listen to the senior class of 2017 present their projects, the culmination of a year-long study of various chosen topics, and a requirement for graduation.  
Tuesday, May 2, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the school cafeteria.

Blood Drive
There is a Blood Drive on Thursday, May 4, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Block Island School gym.

Beach Cleanup Day
Washington Trust is sponsoring its first ever Statewide Beach Cleanup Day on Saturday, May 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at eight beaches across Rhode Island, including Fred Benson Town Beach on Block Island. Help the Rhode Island community ready our beaches for the summer season and preserve our state’s greatest resources. All are welcome.

“Four Legs To Stand On”
This deeply moving play about one family’s struggle with their son’s opioid addiction will be performed by Creating Outreach About Addiction Support Together on Saturday, May 6, at 6:30 p.m. at Block Island Maritime Institute. The 35 minute performance with a 20 minute Q & A with the actors and playwright is sponsored by the Block Island Wellness Coalition, Block Island Medical Center, and NAMI-BI. Everyone is welcome. Block Island School students and their families are encouraged to attend.

MDA Benefit Dinner
On Saturday, May 6, Mason's Movers will be having their third annual Mason's Movers MDA benefit dinner at 5 p.m. at Poor People's Pub. PPP has graciously offered to host the benefit and donate 10% of their dinner sales to the MDA. Come hungry! Bereavement Group 
The Bereavement Group will be meeting on Sunday, May 7, at 3 p.m. at St. Ann’s By-The-Sea.

Prayer Shawl Ministry
There will be a Prayer Shawl Ministry on Monday, May 8, at 7 p.m. at the Harbor Church.

Spring Bird Migration
Witness the spectacular spring plumage of the seasonal bird migration. Saturday, May 13, at 10:30 a.m. Meet on Corn Neck Rd. across from the Labyrinth. Sponsored by the James Stover Exploration Series.

Shad Bloom Race
The annual Shad Bloom 10K Race is being held on Saturday, May 13, at 1 p.m. at the Block Island School. Sponsored by the Block Island Recreation Dept. For more information call  401 466-3223. Register online at  active.com.

Conservation Day Celebration
There is a Conservation Day Reception on Saturday, May 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Narragansett Inn.

Earth Mother’s Day
There is an Earth Mother’s Day and Pavilion Celebration on Sunday, May 14, at 11:15 a.m. at the Ocean View Pavilion.

Pasta Diner
The Early Learning Center’s Annual Pasta Diner is on Tuesday, May 16, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Oar. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for kids.
