Common Ground Coffeehouse  
On Friday, June 2, at 7 p.m. the Common Ground Coffeehouse will present two island pianists on the baby grand in Harbor Church. Alex Chapman will play his own compositions and improvisations, which have a New Age feel. Opening for him will be high school student Jake Douglas, who has played for several years at the Empire and restaurants, with jazz selections. A complimentary supper will be served at 6:30 p.m. Donations for musicians are encouraged.

Study Hall  
Sundays from 2 to 5 p.m. and Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m., the Island Free Library will be holding Power Hours for Scholars. Staff will be on hand to supervise and facilitate research, monitor group projects, and answer basic comprehension questions. Enter through the side door. Study hall on Sunday June 4, will feature ice cream sundaes for finals. The last study hall of the season will be Tuesday, June 6, with pizza.

Frederick J. Benson Memorial Scholarship

Plant Swap 
There will be a Plant Swap, sponsored by the Block Island Gardeners, on Saturday, June 3, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. All islanders are welcome to come and bring a plant (or not) and leave with a plant. Follow the daffodils to the home of Maude Chasse, off Spring Street.

Tango Invasion
On Saturday, June 3, from  1 to 4 p.m. at the Harbor Church in the Social Room. From 1 to 2:30 p.m. is Open Level Class in Social Argentine Tango taught by Will Feuer and Susan Matheke. From  2:30 to 4 p.m. is Argentine Tango Social Dancing Practice. FREE (Donations for Harbor Church please).

Lyme Disease on Block Island
A talk by Dr. Maria Diuk-Wasser (Columbia University) about her long-term research on Block Island. Saturday, June 3, at 3 p.m., at the Island Free Library.

Wine & Sign
Saturday, June 3, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Block Island Historical Society. Learn about and sign up for interesting and volunteer activities. Become a docent and give tours of the collection, greet visitors, assist in the gift shop, help plan and assist at special events, and assist in cataloging the collection. Wine and refreshments will be served.

Bereavement Group 
The Bereavement group meeting on Sunday, June 4, at 3 p.m. at St. Ann’s By-The-Sea has been cancelled.

Food Safety Class  
There is a Food Safety Certification Class from June 5 through June 7 at  8 a.m. at the Spring House. Recertification class is June 6, at 8 a.m. at the Spring House. Register with the Block Island Chamber of Commerce at (401) 466-2474.

Crazy-as-Coot Bird Walk

Soup Group

Horseshoe Crab Survey & Tagging Workshops

Not New Boutique  
The Not New Boutique opening sale is on Saturday, June 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the St. Andrew Parish Center. Still accepting good, clean clothing for our summer sales. Sponsored by the Catholic Ladies Guild. Starting it’s summer hours June 21, every Wednesday from 9 to 3 p.m. until August 30.

Farmers Market  
Farmers Market starts Saturday, June 10, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Legion Park, then runs every Wednesday on the Spring House Lawn, and every Saturday at Legion Park, from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

A Bite Of Block Island 
Enjoy a taste of 2017 menu items from the island’s finest dining establishments. Tickets are $20 and the proceeds benefit Helping Hands Food Pantry. Sunday, June 11, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Block Island Maritime Center.

Social Security On Island
Social Security coming to the island June 15, from 9:45 a.m to 1 p.m., and June 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. They will be set up at the Block Island Chamber of Commerce Office. You will need to bring a passport, DS2019, and I94 form. There will be applications there to fill out. For more information call the Chamber at (401) 466 2474.

Restaurant Week 
The Block Island Restaurant Week runs from Sunday, June 11 at 9 a.m. to Saturday, June 17, at 8 p.m. Participating restaurants offer a two course prix-fixe lunch and a three course prix-fixe dinner. The “Blue Ticket” participating retail businesses will give customers one blue ticket for each $25 spent at their business. There will then be a drawing at the end of the week to award three cash prizes.

Block Island Music Festival 
The Block Island Music Festival runs from Tuesday, June 13, at 5 p.m. to Sunday, June 18, at 12 a.m. In accordance with the organic nature of The Block Island Music Festival, admission is free of charge. The festival is a 21+ years of age and proper identification is absolutely required. Children will be admitted between the hours of 5 to 9 p.m. only under strict parental supervision. Tagless Sale 
St. Ann’s By-The-Sea is having a Tagless Sale on Saturday, June 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a BBQ lunch available. Drop off your items at St. Ann’s Monday to Friday. No books, clothes, mattresses, or electronics. For more information or questions call (401) 466-2911. 

Meadow Walk 
There is a Meadow Walk at the Great Salt Pond on Sunday, June, 17, at 9 a.m. Learn about the species that thrive where salt and fresh water meet. Sponsored by the James Stover Exploration Series. Meet at the trail on Beach Ave., west of Dunn’s Bridge. 

Annual American Legion Auxiliary Yard Sale 
The American Legion Auxiliary is accepting donations of household goods, furniture, kitchen tools, and decorative items for its Annual Yard Sale on June 23 and 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the corner of Ocean Ave. and Connecticut Ave. If you need help or pick up of large items, please call 401-465-9943. All other items can be dropped off early morning on sale days.

2017 July 4th celebration   
The theme of this year’s parade is “Block Island Memories.” Fireworks will be held on Sunday, July 2 (rain date July 3). Donations are needed to reserve bands and fireworks: Double Ender Committee, PO Box 808, Block Island, R.I. 02807.
