Common Ground Coffeehouse
Singer-songwriter Allysen Callery comes to Common Ground Coffeehouse on Friday, June 9, at 7 p.m. She is described as creating “quiet music for a loud world” with her elegantly performed originals earning her a place at the forefront of the “ghost folk” genre. She uses a unique and intricate fingerstyle method of playing guitar, and has a voice that has been called “mesmerizing and angelic.” A complimentary supper is served at 6:30 p.m. Donations for the musician are encouraged.

Horseshoe Crab Survey & Tagging Workshops

Farmers Market
The Farmers Market starts Saturday, June 10, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Legion Park, then runs every Wednesday on the Spring House Lawn, and every Saturday at Legion Park, from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

“Plant-Based Life”
Book author, Micaela Karlsen, will be leading a discussion & food recipe demonstration on Saturday, June 10, at 2 p.m. at the Medical Center (downstairs). The event is free to all. There will be a discussion with a tasting from some of her book recipes.  Her book may also be found at the Island Bound Bookstore if you'd like for her to sign a copy.

A Bite Of Block Island
Enjoy a taste of 2017 menu items from the island’s finest dining establishments. Tickets are $20 and the proceeds benefit Helping Hands Food Pantry. Sunday, June 11, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Block Island Maritime Center.

Blues on the Block Golf Tournament
On June 12, there will be a Golf Tournament benefiting Blues on the Block. The golf tournament will be held at Meadowbrook golf course in Richmond, RI with a 10 a.m. shotgun start. The format will be foursome playing best ball. $100 per person includes 18 holes, cart, lunch, raffle tickets, and hospitality after. J-1 Student Employer Orientation
The International Student Worker Coalition is hosting a breakfast orientation meeting for employers of students on J-1 visas on Tuesday, June 13, from 8 to 9 a.m. at the Harbor Church. Mike James of the US State Dept. in Washington will be present along with directors of Global Dynamic and Alliance Abroad to discuss government policies and employer questions.

Social Security On Island
Representatives from the Social Security Adminstration are coming to the island on June 15, from 9:45 a.m to 1 p.m., and June 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Block Island Chamber of Commerce Office to assist foreign workers. You will need to bring a passport, DS2019, and I94 form. There will be applications there to fill out. For more information call the Chamber at (401) 466-2474.

Restaurant Week
The Block Island Restaurant Week runs from Sunday, June 11 at 9 a.m. to Saturday, June 17, at 8 p.m. Participating restaurants offer a two course prix-fixe lunch and a three course prix-fixe dinner. Participating “Blue Ticket”  retail businesses will give customers one blue raffle ticket for each $25 spent at their business. There will then be a drawing at the end of the week to award three cash prizes.

Block Island Music Festival
The Block Island Music Festival runs from Tuesday, June 13, at 5 p.m. to Sunday, June 18, at 12 a.m. In accordance with the organic nature of The Block Island Music Festival, admission is free of charge. The festival is a 21-plus years of age and proper identification is absolutely required. Children will be admitted between the hours of 5 to 9 p.m. only under strict parental supervision. Tagless Sale
St. Ann’s By-The-Sea is having a Tagless Sale on Saturday, June 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. under the tent. There will be a BBQ lunch available. Drop off your items at St. Ann’s Monday to Friday. No books, clothes, mattresses, or electronics. For more information or questions call (401) 466-2911.

There is a Meadow Walk at the Great Salt Pond on Sunday, June, 17, at 9 a.m. Learn about the species that thrive where salt and fresh water meet. Sponsored by the James Stover Exploration Series. Meet at the trail on Beach Avenue, west of Dunn’s Bridge. 

Jewelry & Crafts Sale
African Team Ministries jewelry and crafts will be on sale at St. Ann's By-The-Sea from June 18 to June 25. Proceeds go to serving the church in East Africa for providing clean water, medical care, and much, much more.

Not New Boutique
The Not New Boutique starts Wednesday, June 21, and is every Wednesday from 9 to 3 p.m. at the St. Andrew Parish Center. Still accepting good, clean clothing for our summer sales. Sponsored by the Catholic Ladies Guild.

Annual American Legion Auxiliary Yard Sale
The American Legion Auxiliary is accepting donations of household goods, furniture, kitchen tools, and decorative items for its Annual Yard Sale on June 23 and 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the corner of Ocean Ave. and Connecticut Ave. If you need help or pick up of large items, please call 401-465-9943. All other items can be dropped off early morning on sale days.

BIMI Tuesday Night Lecture
On Tuesday, June 27, at 7 p.m. at the BIMI Center will be hosting  Bob Oberg, Vice President for Development at The College Crusade with a lecture on Kayak Fishing for Big Stripers. This presentation will bring together the various components of kayak fishing – rigging, tackle, electronics, strategy, and safety, with special focus on tube and worm fishing. Bob fishes from a Hobie, pedal- and motor-powered kayak and has been featured in On The Water magazine, Fishing the Ocean State, The Providence Journal, and The Florida Sportsman's "Kayak Fishing" book.

2017 July 4th celebration
The theme of this year’s parade is “Block Island Memories.” Fireworks will be held on Sunday, July 2 (rain date July 3). Donations are needed to reserve bands and fireworks: Double Ender Committee, PO Box 808, Block Island, R.I. 02807.

Free RISD Classes
Expand your artistic abilities. If you love art, are between the ages of 14 and 25, and attended the Block Island School for at least one year, you can apply for the Thomas McAleer RISD Scholarship.
