Common Ground Coffeehouse
Common Ground Coffeehouse presents Delta blues slide guitarist Robert Hill singing the blues, with his daughter Paulina adding harmony and performing Broadway tunes, Friday, July 28, at 7 p.m. inside Harbor Church. Complimentary supper served at 6:30 p.m. Donation for the musicians encouraged.

Crab Races
Crab Races are ON at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday July 29, They are free at BIMI. Become a Crab Jockey, catch your crab paint your crab, enter the race, Be a winner, win a prize, or just be a judge and watch the fun.

Great Salt Pond Swim
The Great Salt Pond Swim will be held on Saturday, July 29, at 11 a.m. This will be a one mile swim limited to 150 individuals, starting at Andy’s Way Beach, swimming out toward Beane Point, and returning to Andy’s Way Beach. Register at active.com.

Historical Society Porch Party
The Historical Society Annual Porch Party Fundraiser is on Saturday, July 29, from 6 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $75 for Adults and $25 for Children. Refreshments and live music. Tickets are available at the Historical Society, Island Bound Bookstore, the Glass Onion, and online at blockislandhistorical.org.

Vacation Bible School
Harbor Church offers a free Vacation Bible School for all kids ages 4 to 11 from July 31 to August 4, Monday through Friday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Supper is provided, as well as music with motions, funny skits and cinema, Bible  stories, crafts, and outdoor recreation. No preregistration required, but if you'd like to take care of it in advance call 466-5940.

BIMI Lecture Series
An Amazing Career & Insider’s View of the U.S. Submarine Service – Prof. William Bundy, Director, Gravely Naval Warfare Research Group, Strategic & Operational Research, U.S. Naval War College on Tuesday, Aug. 1, at 7 p.m. at the BIMI Center.

Summer Concert Series
The 2017 Summer Concert Series presents Kevin Briody, Emmy-winning songwriter, on Wednesday, Aug. 2, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Andrew Parish Center.

Triathlon
The Block Island Triathlon is popular with both seasoned racers and beginners. The race starts with a 1/4 mile open water swim off of beautiful crescent beach. After the swim racers hop on their bikes for a 12 mile ride around the island with stunning views of the Atlantic, old stone walls, pastures and rolling hills. The final leg of the race is back at the beach for a 4 mile run in the sand. Saturday, Aug. 5, at 9 a.m. at Town Beach. Register at active.com.

Mary D. Ball
The annual Mary D. Ball is being held on Saturday, Aug. 5 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Sullivan House on Corn Neck Rd. Music provided By DJ Jon O'Neill and Walter McDonough. Proceeds to benefit the Mary D. Fund. Tickets are $40 Supporter, $75 Sponsor, or $150 Club Mary. Tickets available at the door or send a check made out to The Mary D. ConserFest
ConserFest is on Saturday, Aug. 5, from 3 to 9 p.m. at the Narragansett Inn. On Sunday, Aug. 6, from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Town Beach, and from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Yellow Kittens.

Fun Run
The Medical Center Fun Run is on Sunday, Aug. 6, at  at town Beach. A 3.2 mile/5k run on the most beautiful beach on Block Island. Check in is located at the Fred Benson Beach Pavilion at 8:30 a.m. Register on active.com.

The Block Island Arts and Crafts Guild Fair is on Sunday, Aug. 6, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Historical Society Lawn.

Seeking Shelter
Seeking Shelter from the Storm, Daniel Berrigan, William Stringfellow and Block Island, the exhibition is open for viewing during Island Free Library hours. Tuesday, Aug. 1, “Seeking Shelter,” the film, is at 5:30 p.m. at the Island Free Library. Weekly programming for this exhibition is scheduled for every Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Island Free Library. Exhibition runs until Oct. 9.

Sunday School
This season the Harbor Church is offering child care and fun activities during the Sunday morning worship service from 10 to 11 a.m. No charge and no reservation required. Two adults stay with the children, one of them certified in babysitting and first aid.
