Common Ground Coffeehouse 
Friday, Aug.18, at 7 p.m. Common Ground Coffeehouse will present a rare double bill. The opening act with be Carrie Johnson, a singer-songwriter from CT. The second act will be Mark Cutler, one of the best-loved figures in Rhode Island Rock and Roll and a member of the RI Music Hall of Fame. Free supper with international students available at 6:30 p.m. Donations for musicians are encouraged.

Gallery Openings
There is a reception at Jessie Edwards Gallery on Saturday, Aug. 19, from 5 to 7 p.m. featuring paintings by Peter Michael Gish. Spring Street Gallery has the following artist receptions: Tuesday, Aug. 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. featuring jewelry by Felicia Cinquegrana Puckett; Saturday, Aug. 26, from 5 to 7 p.m. featuring paintings by Kate Bird; Tuesday, Aug. 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. featuring paintings by Neil Lang. There is a reception on West Side Rd. before Grace’s Cove on Saturday, Sep. 2, from 4 to 7 p.m. featuring paintings by Fred Poisson.

Book Signing 
“Your Freshman is Off To College” book signing with author Laurie Hazard will be held on Friday, Aug. 18, at 5 p.m. at Island Bound Bookstore.

West Beach Walk 
Great beach walk for wildlife along the scenic north end. Sponsored by the James Stover Exploration Series. Saturday, Aug. 19, at 8 a.m. Meet at the end of West Beach Road.

Conservancy Service
The Block Island Ecumenical Ministries is sponsoring the annual Conservancy Service held at Pete Wood's at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19. The service features Tony Pappas as our homilist and Virginia Dare will be providing the music. There is a collation to follow the service.

Arts & Crafts Guild Fair 
The Arts and Crafts Guild Fair is on Sunday, Aug. 20, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the lawn of the Historical Society.

Mystery Walk
This walk will be to an undisclosed location during a partial solar eclipse. Monday, Aug. 21, at 1 p.m. Call 401-595-7055 to sign up for this space limited walk.

Partial Solar Eclipse
There will be a partial Solar Eclipse on Monday, Aug. 21, from 1:28 p.m. to 2:47 p.m. Look up!

BIMI Lecture Series
Gryphon Solo 2: Setting a World Record for Solo Circumnavigation in a 40' Monohull Sailboat – Joe Harris, owner of BroadReach Development Group, Inc. (real estate investment, development and project management) on Tuesday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. at the BIMI Center.

Night Sky Viewing
There will be a night Sky Viewing on Wednesday, Aug. 23, at 8 p.m. at the Hodge Preserve. Bring a blanket or beach chair.

Oysta’ Fest
The Block Island Maritime Institute is hosting Oysta’ Fest on Saturday, Aug. 26, from 4 to 6 p.m. Oysters, hot dogs, chips, beer and wine, music, and fun!. $25 for adults kids under 8 free.

Summer Concert Series
The Summer Concert Series presents Jonathan Tortolano, Cello and piano on Wednesday, Aug. 30, at 7:30 p.m. at the St. Andrew Parish Center on Spring St.

"Y-art" Sale at the Spring Street Gallery
Artwork and creations by gallery members at discounted prices. Featuring pieces from past years that have perhaps never been sold before or have been around the “Block” once too often. Sunday, Sep. 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the lawn of the gallery. Raindate: Monday, Sep. 4, from 10a.m. to 1 p.m. No early birds, please.

Farmers Market
The Farmers Market is every Wednesday on The Spring House Lawn, and every Saturday at Legion Park, from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

Seeking Shelter
”Seeking Shelter from the Storm,” Daniel Berrigan, William Stringfellow and Block Island, the exhibition is open for viewing during Island Free Library hours. Weekly programming for this exhibition is scheduled for every Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Island Free Library. Exhibition runs until Oct. 9.

Sunday School
This season the Harbor Church is offering child care and fun activities during the Sunday morning worship service from 10 to 11 a.m. No charge and no reservation required. Two adults stay with the children, one of them certified in babysitting and first aid.
