Common Ground Coffeehouse
Friday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m. the Common Ground Coffeehouse presents singer-songwriter Krista Baroni, whose last CD hearkens back to the sound of the Laurel Canyon singer/songwriters of the 60's and 70's. Complimentary supper with international students at 6:30 p.m. Donations for musician encouraged.

The Block Island Maritime Institute is hosting Oysta’ Fest on Saturday, Aug. 26, from 4 to 6 p.m. Oysters, hot dogs, chips, beer and wine, music, and fun! $25 for adults kids under 8 free.
Summer Concert Series
The Summer Concert Series presents Jonathan Tortolano, cello and piano, on Wednesday, Aug. 30, at 7:30 p.m. at the St. Andrew Parish Center on Spring St.
Old Harbor Walking Tour
There will be a Walking Tour of Historical Downtown Block Island on Thursday, Aug. 31, at 11 am, sponsored by the BI Historical Society. Come learn about the history of downtown Block Island, the hotels, the breakwater, and the persons who were part of the development of downtown. The tour begins at Rebecca at the Well and will last approximately one hour. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the BI Historical Society or at the beginning of the Tour.
American Legion Meeting
American Legion Post 36 is having its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, Aug. 31, at Legion Hall on West Side Rd. Meeting starts at 5:15 p.m. gathering with a short business meeting at 6 p.m. All active military and veterans visiting Block Island are invited to join us.
The Block Island Lions Club is hosting a Clam Bake on Saturday, Sept. 2, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Narragansett.
“Y-art” Sale at the Spring Street Gallery
Artwork and creations by gallery members at discounted prices. Featuring pieces from past years that have perhaps never been sold before or have been around the “Block” once too often. Sunday, Sept. 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the lawn of the gallery. Raindate: Monday, Sept. 4, from 10a.m. to 1 p.m. No early birds, please.
The Bereavement Group will be meeting on Sunday, Sept. 3, at 5 p.m. at St. Ann’s By-The-Sea.
Block Island Gardeners' Edibles Luncheon
The Block Island Gardeners will host the Edibles Luncheon at the Narragansett on Thursday, Sept. 7, at noon. This event is open to the entire community. Bring a lunch dish “from your garden” (or someone else’s) to share. Following the lunch, Dr. John Taylor, assistant professor of agroecology at URI, will discuss the latest trends in gardening throughout Rhode Island.
Family Support Group
NAMI Block Island is offering a free Family Support Group for anyone with a family member living with mental illness. The group will meet monthly beginning Saturday, Sept. 9, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in Room C of the Island Free Library. Facilitators are locals who have received extensive training but also have family with mental health challenges.
Run Around The Block
The Annual 15K Run Around The Block road race is on Saturday, Sept. 9, at 1:30 p.m. at Isaac’s Corner. Register at active.com.
Historical Society Tours
There will be special guided tours " The Island's Attic "interesting objects from the archives and special items celebrating the Historical Society’s 75th anniversary.” Tours: Friday, Sept. 15, at noon and 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 16, at 11:00 a.m. and 1 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 17, at 11 a.m. Tickets are $10/person $5 children. Tour includes a free poster & postcard set.
Taste Of Block Island
The Taste of Block Island Weekend is Sept. 15 to 17, island wide at various venues.
Night Sky Viewing
There will be a Night Sky Viewing on Saturday, Sept. 16, at 7:30 p.m. at the Hodge Preserve.
Arts & Crafts Guild Fair
There is an Arts and Crafts Fair on Sunday, Sept. 17, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. on the lawn of the Historical Society.
Not New Boutique
The Not New Boutique is on Wednesday Aug. 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the St. Andrew Parish Center. The final sales for the season are Friday, Sept. 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please do not drop off anything after Sept. 1.
The Farmers Market is every Wednesday on The Spring House Lawn, and every Saturday at Legion Park, from 9 to 11:30 a.m.
“Seeking Shelter from the Storm, Daniel Berrigan, William Stringfellow and Block Island,” the exhibition, is open for viewing during Island Free Library hours. Weekly programming for this exhibition is scheduled for every Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Island Free Library. Exhibition runs until Oct. 9.

This season the Harbor Church is offering child care and fun activities during the Sunday morning worship service from 10 to 11 a.m. No charge and no reservation required. Two adults stay with the children, one of them certified in babysitting and first aid.
