Common Ground Coffeehouse
Common Ground Coffeehouse on Friday Oct 6, at 7 p.m. will show the movie “The Lost City of Z.” Complimentary supper served at 6:30 p.m.
Tuesdays from 5 to 7 p.m., the Island Free Library will be holding Power Hours for Scholars. Staff will be on hand to supervise and facilitate research, monitor group projects, and answer basic comprehension questions. Free pizza!
Fun activities after school every Friday at the Island Free Library at 1 p.m. A different activity every week like Legos, Arts & Crafts, Board Games, and Stem projects.
Fall Lecture Series
On Friday, Oct. 6, Chris DeSorbo, the Raptor Program Director for the Biodiversity Research Institute, will speak about their ongoing raptor research at Lewis Farm. Lecture is at 6 p.m. at the BIMI Center. Sponsored by the BIMI and The Nature Conservancy.
Arts & Crafts Guild Fair
The last Farmers Market of the year at the Historical Society will be combined with the Arts and Crafts Guild Fair on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the lawn.
Family Support Group
NAMI Block Island is offering a free Family Support Group for anyone with a family member living with mental illness. The monthly group will meet Saturday, Oct, 7, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Island Free Library. Facilitators are locals who have received extensive training but also have family with mental health challenges.
Hurricanes Home Soccer Games
There are varsity games on the following dates: Saturday, Oct. 7, at 12:30 p.m. against Middlebridge; Friday, Oct. 13, at 12:45 p.m. against Times Squared; Friday, Oct. 20, at 2:15 p.m. against Oxford; Saturday, Oct. 21, at 12:15 p.m. against Grove. All games are played at Heinz Field.
Half Marathon this weekend, Sunday, Oct. 8. The race starts at the Fred Benson Beach Pavilion at 11:30 a.m. The cost is $50.00. Registration and sign in will be at the Town Beach Pavilion on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 4 to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 8 , from 9 to 11 a.m. Anyone with questions call 401-466-3223 or 401-641-1540.
The Third Annual BeatleFest will be held at Harbor Church on Sunday, Oct. 8, from 4 to 6 p.m. Five island acts and five mainland musicians will perform two or three favorite Beatles songs. Tickets, $20, benefit the church’s programs; musicians and producers are donating their talents.
There is Lyme Disease Testing at the Block Island Medical Center Monday, Oct. 9, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. All residents are welcome to participate, especially those who have participated in the Yale/BIMC sponsored serosurvey study in the past. People age 18 and older are welcome to attend.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
There will be a Prayer Shawl Ministry on Monday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. at the Harbor Church.
Ecumenical Choir Practice
The Ecumenical Choir will be having practice for the Thanksgiving Concert every Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Harbor Church.
There is a free grief support group every other Tuesday afternoon. The next session will be held on Oct. 10, at 4 p.m. at the Community Center meeting room.

Family Fort Night
The Island Free Library is having a Family Fort Night at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13. Bring some blankets and join in the fun!
Shred It & Forget It
A free paper shredding and recycling event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Town Beach parking lot. Residents can drive up to the secure shredding truck provided by Affordable Shredding and safely dispose of unneeded or sensitive documents that contain personal information.
Sachem Pond Paddle Tour
