On The Block
Fun activities after school every Friday at the Island Free Library at 1 p.m. A different activity every week like Legos, arts and crafts, board games, and STEM projects.
On Tuesdays from 5 to 7 p.m., the Island Free Library is hosting “Power Hours for Scholars.” Staff will be on hand to supervise and facilitate research, monitor group projects, and answer basic comprehension questions. Free pizza!
Lunch Bunch is every Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at the Community Center.
Ecumenical Choir Practice
There will be Ecumenical Choir Practice for the Easter Concert every Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Harbor Church.

The Girls Varsity has games on Saturday, Jan. 6, against North Providence at 12:30 p.m.; on Saturday, Jan. 20, against Central at 12:15 p.m.; on Saturday, Jan. 27, against Central Falls at 12:30 p.m. The Boys Varsity has games on Friday, Jan. 5, against Grove at 2:30 p.m.; Friday, Jan. 19, against New Testament at 2:30 p.m.; on Wednesday, Jan. 24, against Oxford at 12:30 p.m. All games played at the Block Island School gym.
Common Ground Coffeehouse
Friday, Jan. 12, at 7 p.m., the Common Ground Coffeehouse at the Harbor Church presents “Dunkirk,” a film written and directed by Christopher Nolan chronicling the evacuation of British soldiers from Dunkirk, France, in 1940. A complimentary supper will be served at 6:30 p.m., and coffee and dessert will be available before the film. Donations are appreciated.
Helping Hands Food Pantry
Every other Wednesday at the Harbor Church. The next Helping Hands Food Pantry will be Wednesday, Jan. 17, from 1 to 5 p.m.

There is a free Grief Support Group meeting being held on Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 4 p.m. at the Community Center meeting room.
Film & Soup
The next movie will be “A Plastic Ocean.” The show date is Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Island Free Library. Bring a spoon and cup/bowl for the soup.
BIYC Maritime Scholarship
Applications for the B.I. Yacht Club Maritime Scholarship will be accepted until Feb. 1, 2018. Graduates of the Block Island School who intend to pursue maritime careers, and are currently enrolled in a college undergraduate maritime program, are eligible. Hunter Safety Classes
Classes will be held on Saturday, Feb. 3, from 12 noon to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 4, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Island Free Library. The cost is $35. There needs to be a minimum of 10 people signed up for the instructor to come to the Island. The deadline to sign up is Friday, Jan. 26. Call the Recreation Dept. at (401) 466-3223 to sign up.
