Fun Fridays

Fun activities after school every Friday at the Island Free Library at 1 p.m. A different activity every week like Legos, arts and crafts, board games, and STEM projects. Kids yoga returns to the library! Fridays, 10 a.m. toddlers; 10:30 a.m. pre-schoolers. Free and fun for all.

Study Hall

On Tuesdays from 5 to 7 p.m., the Island Free Library is hosting “Power Hours for Scholars.” Staff will be on hand to supervise and facilitate research, monitor group projects, and answer basic comprehension questions. Free pizza!

Lunch Bunch

Lunch Bunch is every Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at the Community Center.

Ecumenical Choir Practice

There will be Ecumenical Choir Practice for the Easter Concert every Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Harbor Church.

Free Artist Studio Space

Hurricanes Home Basketball Games

The Girls Varsity has games on Saturday, Jan. 20, against Central at 12:15 p.m.; on Saturday, Jan. 27, against Central Falls at 12:30 p.m. The Boys Varsity has games on Friday, Jan. 19, against New Testament at 2:30 p.m.; on Wednesday, Jan. 24, against Oxford at 12:30 p.m. All games played at the Block Island School gym.

Common Ground Coffeehouse

Friday, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m., the Common Ground Coffeehouse at the Harbor Church presents ”Loving Vincent.” This feature-length painted animation — the first film of its kind —explores the life and unusual death of Vincent van Gogh through depictions of his artworks. A complimentary supper will be served at 6:30 p.m., and coffee and dessert will be available before the film. Donations are appreciated.

Helping Hands Food Pantry 

Every other Wednesday at the Harbor Church. The next Helping Hands Food Pantry will be Wednesday, Jan. 24, from 1 to 5 p.m.

Stranger Things Season 1 Marathon

Friday, Jan. 19 from 5 to 10 p.m., and Saturday, Jan. 20 from 7 p.m. to the last episode! We are showing all of season one, come watch all or some of the episodes! We will have Domino’s (weather permitting) on Friday, and Eggo Waffles on Saturday! This event is geared for teens and adults. Common Sense Media recommends this show for ages 14 and over.

Film & Soup

The next movie will be “A Plastic Ocean.” The show date is Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Island Free Library. Bring a spoon and cup/bowl for the soup.

BIYC Maritime Scholarship

Applications for the B.I. Yacht Club Maritime Scholarship will be accepted until Feb. 1, 2018. Graduates of the Block Island School who intend to pursue maritime careers, and are currently enrolled in a college undergraduate maritime program, are eligible. Hunter Safety Classes

Classes will be held on Saturday, Feb. 3, from 12 noon to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 4, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Island Free Library. The cost is $35. There needs to be a minimum of 10 people signed up for the instructor to come to the Island. The deadline to sign up is Friday, Jan. 26. Call the Recreation Dept. at (401) 466-3223 to sign up.
