Fun Fridays

Fun activities after school every Friday at the Island Free Library at 1 p.m. A different activity every week like Legos, arts and crafts, board games, and STEM projects. Kids’ yoga returns to the library! Fridays, 10 a.m. toddlers; 10:30 a.m. pre-schoolers. Free and fun for all.

Study Hall

On Tuesdays from 5 to 7 p.m., the Island Free Library is hosting “Power Hours for Scholars.” Staff will be on hand to supervise and facilitate research, monitor group projects, and answer basic comprehension questions. Free pizza!

Lunch Bunch

Lunch Bunch is every Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at the Community Center.

Ecumenical Choir Practice

There will be Ecumenical Choir Practice for the Easter Concert every Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Harbor Church.

Free Artist Studio Space

Hurricanes Home Basketball Games

The Girls Varsity has a game on Saturday, Jan. 27, against Central Falls at 12:30 p.m. All games played at the Block Island School gym.

Common Ground Coffeehouse

Friday, Jan. 26, at 7:15 p.m. (note new time), “The Trip to Spain.” Food critic Steve Coogan and his traveling companion Rob Brydon trade delicious barbs and clever remarks as they tour various eateries in Spain, in what The Atlantic opined “might be the funniest movie yet in this curious little franchise.” (Note: We will start the movie at 7:15 from now on, to allow folks arriving on the last boat to join us.)

A light supper will be served at 6:30 p.m.; coffee and dessert will be available before the film begins at 7:15. No charge, but donations are welcome.

Helping Hands Food Pantry 

Every other Wednesday at the Harbor Church. The next Helping Hands Food Pantry will be Wednesday, Feb. 7, from 1 to 5 p.m.

BIYC Maritime Scholarship

Applications for the B.I. Yacht Club Maritime Scholarship will be accepted until Feb. 1, 2018. Graduates of the Block Island School who intend to pursue maritime careers, and are currently enrolled in a college undergraduate maritime program, are eligible. Hunter Safety Classes

Classes will be held on Saturday, Feb. 3, from 12 noon to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 4, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Island Free Library. The cost is $35. There needs to be a minimum of 10 people signed up for the instructor to come to the Island. The deadline to sign up is Friday, Jan. 26. Call the Recreation Dept. at (401) 466-3223 to sign up.
