Common Ground Coffeehouse

This Friday, April 6, at 7:15 p.m., the Common Ground Coffeehouse at the Harbor Church will screen “The Shape of Water,” an otherworldly fairy tale set during the Cold War. The film won four 2018 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director (Guillermo del Toro); it was nominated in 13 categories. Rated R. A light supper will be served at 6:30 p.m.; coffee and dessert will be available before the film begins at 7:15. No charge, but donations are welcome. 

Island Free Library events  

- Fun activities after school every Friday at the Island Free Library at 1 p.m. A different activity every week: Legos, arts and crafts, board games, and STEM projects.  

- Cookbook Club: Wednesday, April 11, 6 p.m. What did you miss all winter? Prepare your favorite spring dish and bring it and the recipe to share, then enjoy an evening of sharing, good food and great conversation! All are welcome! Call the library or stop by to register (401) 466-3233.

Game Schedule

The Hurricanes Girls Varsity Softball team will have home games this Saturday April 7,  12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. at Heinz Field. Come show your support. Go Hurricanes!

Lunch Bunch 

Lunch Bunch is every Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at the Community Center.

Bo Gempp Memorial Shellfish Fund  

The fund was established to perpetuate the memory of Hermann "Bo" Gempp, the ultimate best friend and steward of the Great Salt Pond and all the crustaceans that live there. The health of the Great Salt Pond and the health and bounty of its shellfish were his never-ending pursuit. Join us on Sunday, April 8, at 2 p.m. at McAloon’s for the springtime Land of Plenty Bo Gempp Shellfish Fundraiser. Donations can also be sent to The Bo Fund, Post Office Box 818, Block Island, R.I., 02807. The Bo Fund is a tax deductible 501(c)3 charity.

Woodcock Walk

April 14, 7:30 p.m., meet at Hodge Preserve. Come witness the woodcock’s unique courtship flights. 

Crazy-as-a-Coot Bird Walk 

Join us on April 17 from 8 to 9 a.m. All are welcome! No one is too young, or too old, or too novice, or too expert, to join this band of happy birders/walkers. Call Kim Gaffett at (401) 595-7055 on Monday before the Tuesday Coot Walk to learn of the location, which changes based on weather, wind, and hot bird sighting tips.

Helping Hands Food Pantry  

Every other Wednesday at the Harbor Church. The next Helping Hands Food Pantry will be Wednesday, April 18, from 1 to 5 p.m.

Block Island High School Reunion  

This year’s reunion of the Block Island School will be open to all graduates and anyone who attended high school on the island, and will also include teachers.
