On The Block
Common Ground Coffeehouse
This Friday, April 20, the Common Ground Coffeehouse at the Harbor Church will show the Academy Award Best Picture nominee, "The Post." Director Steven Spielberg “offers a tight, lucid and highly satisfying account of the Pentagon Papers from the point of view of The Washington Post and its publisher, Katherine Graham.” — Toronto Globe and Mail. Critics praised Spielberg’s direction and performances by Meryl Streep as Graham, the first female publisher of a major American newspaper (earning her another Best Actress Academy Award nomination). Tom Hanks, as editor Ben Bradlee, heads an outstanding ensemble cast. The Washington Post’s own critic said the movie "works on many levels, from polemic and thinly veiled cautionary tale to fun period piece and rip-roaring newspaper yarn.” It’s set in 1971, but the themes are timely today. A light supper will be served at 6:30 p.m.; coffee and dessert will be available before the film begins at 7:15. No charge, but donations are welcome.
