The Nature Conservancy & Block Island Conservancy

The TNC and BIC co-sponsor free, guided nature programs on Block Island throughout the year. Together, they offer many different ways to connect to the fields, marshes, and beaches that make the island so exceptional. Check out the advertisement on page 9.

Island Free Library

Saturday, July 28 at 10 a.m. TED talks at the Island Free Library, with NAMI B.I.: Joshua Walters "On Being Just Crazy Enough" Come and watch this TED talk, then join Q & A. All views welcome.

- Thursday, August 2 at 4:30 p.m. Shakespeare on the lawn, will be preforming A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Bring a beach chair and enjoy. 

Farmers Market

Farmers Markets will be on Wednesdays from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at The Spring House, and Saturdays, from 9 to 11:30 a.m., at Legion Park for the rest of the summer.

Not New Boutique 

Every Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Andrew Parish Center, Spring Street, lower level and barn. Accepting donations throughout the summer at the drop-off box at the Parish Center. Please no household items.

Dodge Street Nightmarket

Join Dodge Street businesses Thursday evenings for shopping and entertainment offerings geared toward all ages and families. Games, stories, and workshops, from 6 to 8 p.m.

The Great Salt Pond Swim 

Saturday, July 28 at 11 a.m. the fourth annual swim will begin at Andy’s Way. Go to CGSPBlockisland.org click “2018 Swim” to register.

Shore 2 the Pour Beach Run

Three-mile beach run sponsored by Two Roads Brewery. Saturday, July 28. Meet at the Block Island Club for check-in at 4 p.m. Race starts at 6 p.m. at Scotch Beach. $40 entry fee includes a tee shirt, medal and beer! Sign up at runsignup.com/race/RI/newshoreham/s2pblockisland.

Harbor Church Annual Jazz Brunch, Fair & Auction

Heigh-Ho, Come to the Fair! Saturday, July 28, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the porch, on the lawn and under the new pergola, join for the annual Jazz Brunch (great food and Cameron Greenlee on the keyboard), Tony's Treasurer's (aka the will-not-die White Elephant Sale). Silent Auction cottages and B & B stays, and a Live Auction highlighting fun experiences and more. The Block Island Quilt will be on display and raffle tickets for it sold.

Knitting Workshop 

North Light Fibers is sponsoring a special brioche two-color knitting workshop on Sunday, July 29 from 1 to 4 p.m. Kay Mehls from Newport will lead the workshop, which includes instruction and two skeins of Atlantic yarn (your choice of colors). American Legion Family Picnic

Sunday, July 29 at Legion Park on West Side Road from 12 to 3 p.m. All you can eat, adults $12, kids $5, under 6 free. Kids games. Great food. Fun for all. Support our Vets.

Farewell Folk Festival and Reception for Steve & Becca 

Harbor Church invites friends and neighbors on Sunday, July 29, to say “Thank you and smooth sailing” to Pastor Steve and Becca, who are leaving after nine years of service to Harbor Church and the Block Island community. Musician friends, local and “imported” favorites, will be playing from 4 to 6 p.m.;  a reception at 6 p.m. in Fellowship Hall with words of appreciation and farewell. All are welcome!

Soundwaves First Movie on The Beach

The first official Soundwaves event will be held on Tuesday, July 31 at 7:30 p.m. (Weather permitting.) A selection of experimental art and music at 7:30 p.m., followed by a screening of "The Goonies" at Fred Benson Town Beach around 8:30 p.m. Open to the public and admission-free. Donations are encouraged and appreciated.

Block Island Triathlon

Saturday, Aug. 4. The race begins at Fred Benson Town Beach at 9 a.m. Pre-register at active.com

Mary D. Ball

The 24th annual Mary D. Ball will be held at The Sullivan House on Saturday, Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door. It’s a family friendly event, put your dancing shoes on and come to the ball.
