The Nature Conservancy & Block Island Conservancy

The TNC and BIC co-sponsor free, guided nature programs on Block Island throughout the year. Together, they offer many different ways to connect to the fields, marshes, and beaches that make the island so exceptional. Check out the advertisement on page 9.

Island Free Library

Friday, Aug. 3 at 11 a.m. Ms. Morgan’s Pop-Up Storytime will be at the Abrams Animal Farm.  Friday, Aug. 10 at 11 a.m. storytime will be at the Southeast Light.

- Thursday, Aug. 9 at 7 p.m. Environment Film Series, “The Smog of the Sea,” will be shown.

Farmers Market

Farmers Markets will be on Wednesdays from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at The Spring House, and Saturdays, from 9 to 11:30 a.m., at Legion Park for the rest of the summer.

Not New Boutique 

Every Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Andrew Parish Center, Spring Street, lower level and barn. Accepting donations throughout the summer at the drop-off box at the Parish Center. Please no household items.

Dodge Street Nightmarket

Join Dodge Street businesses Thursday evenings for shopping and entertainment offerings geared toward all ages and families. Games, stories, and workshops, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Night Sky Viewing

Friday, August 3 at 8:45 p.m., Hodge Preserve on Corn Neck Road., bring a blanket or chair. (In the case of poor weather this will be postponed to Aug. 4) The next viewing will be on Saturday, August 11.

Block Island Triathlon

Saturday, Aug. 4. The race begins at Fred Benson Town Beach at 9 a.m. Pre-register at active.com

The Mary D. Ball

The 24th annual Mary D. Ball will be held at The Sullivan House on Saturday, Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door. It’s a family friendly event, put your dancing shoes on and come to the ball.

BIHS Medical Center Annual Fun Run

Sunday, Aug. 5. Sign up at 8:30 a.m. at Town Beach or on active.com. The run begins at 9:30 a.m. 

Arts and Crafts Guild Fair

Sunday, August 5 at 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The fair will be at the Historical Society.

ConserFest

Block Island Photographs

The Wetherbee mural has been preserved in photographs by Jack Lynch and his daughter. On Tuesday, Aug. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Block Island Maritime Institute, Jack will share the photographs and history not only of Wetherbee,  but also of Block Island of the 1930s, before the infamous Hurricane of ‘38. Along with these wonderful photos will be artwork from Block Island’s own Jessie Edwards and Bill Hall.

Old Harbor Walking Tour

Tuesday, Aug. 7 at 10 a.m. the Historical Society will be leading a tour of Old Harbor. Meet at the Chamber of Commerce.

Palatine Grave Tour

The festival is at the Harbor Church all weekend starting at 10 a.m. Aug. 11 - 13.

Block Island Soccer Classic

Saturday Aug. 11 An all-day tournament. Kick off for the first game is 10 a.m. at Heinz Field.

Great Salt Pond Stroll

Friday and Saturday, Aug. 10 and Aug. 11 at 11 a.m. Two part stroll along the Great Salt Pond perimeter, meet at Andy’s Way.

Visit a Block Island Garden

The public is invited to visit a unique Block Island garden that supplies the weekly Farmers Market. The Block Island Gardeners will host a tour through the garden of Amy Keeler of Mitchell Lane, on Monday, Aug. 13 at 4 p.m. This event is free to all, and refreshments will be served.  Follow the daffodil markers from Lakeside Drive. House And Garden Tour
