The Nature Conservancy & Block Island Conservancy
The TNC and BIC co-sponsor free, guided nature programs on Block Island throughout the year. Together, they offer many different ways to connect to the fields, marshes, and beaches that make the island so exceptional. Check out the advertisement on page nine.
Island Free Library
- Friday, Aug. 10 at 11 a.m. Ms. Morgan’s Pop-Up storytime will be at the Southeast Light.
- Saturday, Aug. 11 at 10 a.m. TED talks at the Island Free Library with NAMI-BI: "Serious Mental Illness.” Come and watch this TED talk, then join Q/A and discussion, all views welcome.
- Wednesday, August 15 at 6 p.m. the 641 Cookbook Club will be having a meeting, bring your favorite seafood dish to the library.
- Friday, Aug. 17 at 11 a.m. the library will be presenting Bwana Iguana Reptile Adventure, a show about the mysterious world of reptiles. Ray Ward’s presentation is educational and fun.
Farmers Markets will be on Wednesdays from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at The Spring House, and Saturdays, from 9 to 11:30 a.m., at Legion Park for the rest of the summer.
Not New Boutique
Every Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Andrew Parish Center, Spring Street, lower level and barn. Accepting donations throughout the summer at the drop-off box at the Parish Center. Please, no household items.
Dodge Street Nightmarket
Join Dodge Street businesses Thursday evenings for shopping and entertainment offerings geared toward all ages and families. Games, stories, and workshops, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Palatine Grave Tour

Great Salt Pond Stroll
Friday and Saturday, Aug. 10 and Aug. 11 at 11 a.m. Two part stroll along the Great Salt Pond perimeter, meet at Andy’s Way.
Hal Madison Boat Race
The Block Island Club will host the 35th Annual Race on Saturday, Aug. 11 at noon. There will be a skippers' meeting at the Block Island Club on Corn Neck Road at 9:30 a.m. Any questions should be directed to the Block Island Club at (401) 466-5939.
Night Sky Viewing
Saturday, Aug. 11 at 8:45 p.m., Hodge Preserve on Corn Neck Road. Bring a blanket or chair. (In the case of poor weather this will be postponed to Aug. 12.)
Art and Artisans Festival
The festival is at the Harbor Church all weekend starting at 10 a.m. Aug. 11 - 13.
Block Island Soccer Classic
Saturday Aug. 11. An all-day tournament. Kick off for the first game is 10 a.m. at Heinz Field.
Great Toy Boat Race
Sunday, August 12 at 9:30 a.m. on the bridge on Ocean Ave. (below the police station). The rain date is Monday, Aug. 13 starting at 10:30 a.m. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased the day of the race. All proceeds go to the Early Learning Center. Come and see if your boat wins. Great prizes will be awarded.
Crab Races Return to BIMI
Crab races will return to BIMI following the Toy Boat race at about 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 12. From the Toy Boat event just walk down Ocean Avenue to BIMI Center (next to Dead Eyes), become a Crab Jockey, put on your colored cap, catch your crab (we help), we paint the crab, your crab is entered in one of the races, they’re off, cheer for your crab, be a winner, win a prize. or be a judge and watch the fun.
Visit a Block Island Garden
The public is invited to visit a unique Block Island garden that supplies the weekly Farmers Market. The Block Island Gardeners will host a tour through the garden of Amy Keeler of Mitchell Lane, on Monday, Aug. 13 at 4 p.m. This event is free to all, and refreshments will be served. Follow the daffodil markers from Lakeside Drive. Call Maude at 466-5676 if any questions.
SoundWaves, Movies At The Beach
Tuesday, Aug. 14 at 7:30 p.m. the evening starts with music and experimental art. Then at 8 p.m. The movie “The Princess Bride” will be played. All this happens at the Fred Brenson Town Beach.
Blues On The Beach
Wednesday, Aug. 15 at 6 p.m. at Fred Benson Town Beach.
House And Garden Tour
