The Nature Conservancy & B.I. Conservancy

The TNC and BIC co-sponsor free, guided nature programs throughout the year. Together, they offer many different ways to connect to the fields, marshes, and beaches that make the island so exceptional. Check out the advertisement on page 13. 

Island Free Library Events

1) Friday, Aug. 9 at 11 a.m. Dave Marchetti’s Animal Experience. Learn about snakes and other reptile friends up close and personal. 2) Sunday, Aug. 11 at 5 p.m. “The Untold Story of How the Stories Were Told: Personal Reflections of a Shoah Interviewer.” 3) Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 11 a.m. Improv Workshop. 4) Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 5 p.m. “The Two Gentlemen of Verona.” Shakespeare on the Library Lawn. 5) Thursday, Aug. 15 at 5 p.m. “The Seeking Shelter” exhibit returns with Frida Berrigan. 6) Thursday, Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. “Green Screening” with The Nature Conservancy.

Hal Madison Boat Race

The Block Island Club will host the 36th Annual Race on Saturday, Aug. 10 at noon. There will be a skippers' meeting at the Block Island Club on Corn Neck Road at 9:30 a.m. Any questions should be directed to the Block Island Club at (401) 466-5939.

Ted Talk

Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Island Free Library 10 to 11 a.m., NAMI B.I. invites everyone to watch a TEDTalk: “How the worst moments in our lives make us who we are,” by Andrew Solomon. Join us in discussion to agree or disagree.

Arts and Artisans Festival

Saturday, Aug. 10, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11 from noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Harbor Church.

Great Toy Boat Race

Sunday, Aug. 11 at 9:30 a.m. on the bridge on Ocean Ave. (below the police station). The rain date is Monday, Aug. 12. Starting at 9:30 a.m. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased the day of the race. All proceeds go to the Early Learning Center. Come and see if your boat wins. Great prizes will be awarded.

Prayer Vigil

In response to the most recent mass shootings, there will be a Prayer Vigil at St. Ann’s By the Sea this Sunday night, Aug. 11 at 5 p.m. The whole community is invited to participate through your presence and your prayers at this gathering. Join us as we ask God for safety for our people, and solutions for our nation.

Dodge Street Nightmarket

Join Dodge Street businesses Thursday evenings for shopping and entertainment offerings geared toward all ages and families. Games, stories, and workshops, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Not New Boutique

Open every Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Andrew Parish Center, Spring Street, lower level and barn. Good, clean, used clothing. Accepting donations throughout the summer at the drop-off box at the Parish Center. Please no household items.

Farmers Market

Farmers Markets will be on Wednesdays, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at The Spring House and Saturdays from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Legion Park throughout the summer.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s
