B.I. Yacht Club Scholarship
The Block Island Yacht Club is now offering scholarship applications for the 2021
BIYC Maritime Scholarship program. Students who have already graduated from the
Block Island School, intend to pursue a maritime career, and are currently enrolled
in a college undergraduate maritime program at an accredited institution may receive
up to $1,000 annually to advance their education. Request for application forms or

Applications must be submitted to Block Island Yacht Club, P.O. Box 502, Block
Island, R.I. 02807 by Feb. 1.

Helping Hands Food Pantry
The Helping Hands Food Pantry will be open for distribution of food on Wednesdays,
Jan. 13 and Jan. 27, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Harbor Church. Please wear your mask and
bring your reusable shopping bags. (Rain or snow date will be the next day, Thursday.)
Block Island School Student Council Holiday Lights Contest
The Student Council is holding its first-ever island-wide holiday house decorating
contest. To sign up, write to email@example.com. Contest runs
through Jan. 1. Prizes to the first, second and third place winners.
Not-the-Polar Bear Plunge
There will be no Block Island Polar Bear Plunge this year. Instead, the Block Island
Leo Lions Club asks you to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in memory of John
Henry Tripler. Donations in John Henry’s name may be sent to: ALS Assoc. of R.I.,
