B.I. Arts and Crafts Guild Scholarship
The Block Island Arts and Crafts Guild is accepting applications for the annual art scholarship awards. Graduating high school seniors may be eligible for $1,000 and college students pursuing the arts may be eligible for $750. Both are nonrenewable awards. The application, with portfolio, should be submitted by the deadline May 3, 2021 to either Teri McCombe (401-742-5501) or art teacher Lisa Robb (401-466-5600). Scholarship criteria and applications are available in the B.I. School guidance office.

Frederick J. Benson Memorial Scholarship
The Fred Benson Scholarship Fund Committee has applications ready for Block Island School graduates who have completed at least one year of post-secondary education. The deadline is June 4, 2021. Please contact Michele Phelan at (401) 741-6577 to have an application emailed or mailed to you.

Island Free Library Programs
The Island Free Library invites all to stay local and enjoy the winter on-island.
Library Hours: The Library is now open for in-person browsing. Tuesdays 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Saturdays 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Frankenstein Tea A short story program for adult listeners on YouTube at 3 p.m.

Film screening at Harbor Church
This Friday, April 30 at 7 p.m., the Harbor Church will show the film “Antebellum” (2020) with Janelle Monae. Successful African-American author Veronica Henly finds herself trapped in a horrifying reality and must uncover the life-threatening, mind-bending mystery before it’s too late. No refreshments will be served and all pandemic protocols will be observed. Seating is limited. Call (860) 970-5695 to sign up.

Helping Hands Food Pantry
The Helping Hands Food Pantry will be open for distribution of food on Wednesday, May 5, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Harbor Church. Please wear your mask and bring your reusable shopping bags. (Rain date will be the next day, Thursday.)

Crazy as a Coot Bird Walk

Zoom on Nature with Coffee & Kim
New series for 2021 with two zooms a month! Kim Gaffett, The Nature Conservancy’s Naturalist on Block Island, will be hosting two Zoom calls a month focusing on the island’s unique ecosystems, flora and fauna. Next up is: Early Birds. Shad Bloom 10K Race
The Shad Bloom 10K trail race will take place Saturday, May 8 (Sunday, May 9 if Saturday is a bad weather/cancelled ferry day). Due to Covid restrictions, masks are required for all participants while not actively running. There will be a staggered start to avoid crowding. Not New Boutique
Spring is here. Time to clean your closets! The Not New Boutique will be accepting donations of good, clean, used clothing, shoes, pocketbooks, hats and belts, starting May 10. (No early drop-offs, please.) Items may be dropped off at St. Andrew Parish Center, Spring Street, at the lower level box. Watch for the opening sale on Sat. June 12, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the grounds of the Parish Center, and then on every other Wednesday starting June 16. Face masks must be worn.
