The Fred Benson Scholarship Fund Committee has applications ready for Block Island School graduates who have completed at least one year of post-secondary education. The deadline is June 4, 2021. Please contact Michele Phelan at (401) 741-6577 to have an application emailed or mailed to you.

Island Free Library Programs

The Island Free Library invites all to stay local. Library Hours: The Library is now open for in-person browsing.

2021 Mah Jongg: Come join us outdoors to play a game or two of Mah Jongg. 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. 2021 Mah Jongg cards are available.

Everyday:

Frankenstein Tea. A short story program for adult listeners on YouTube at 3 p.m.
Take & Make Craft Kits. Available for pick-up. Something for everyone, from preschool to adult!

Block Island’s community podcast, Wake Up Well, launches its second season and continues to ask questions about personal well-being and our collective responsibility and power to keep the island well. Living with Loss and Caretakers Group. 

Living with Loss and Caretakers Group will once again be meeting in person at the Block Island Community Center on Tuesdays at 4 p.m. June 1 will be the Caretakers Group. Please wear a mask to be on the careful side.

Retirement Party for Vin Carlone and Fundraiser for B.I. Volunteer Fire & Rescue and IBPO #303 On Saturday, May 29, from 1 to 6 p.m., Ballard’s hosts a retirement party for former Police Chief Vin Carlone and fundraiser for the B.I. Volunteer Fire & Rescue and IBPO #303. With entertainment by Vin’s band Fugitives from Justice and Those Guys. Admission is $25, with all proceeds going to the BIVF&R and IBPO #303. Rain date is May 30.

Block Island Community Sailing
Block Island Community Sailing will be holding an open house on Saturday, May 29 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the New Harbor Boat Basin and a summer sailing kickoff event later from 5 to 7 p.m. For more information, visit sailbi.org.

Come to the Spring Street Gallery on Thursday, June 3, from 5 to 7 p.m. and see the amazing work produced by Block Island’s high school artists. Some work will be available for sale. Masks required, refreshments provided.

Not New Boutique

Spring is here. Time to clean your closets! The Not New Boutique will be accepting donations of good, clean, used clothing, shoes, pocketbooks, hats and belts. Items may be dropped off at St. Andrew Parish Center, Spring Street, at the lower level box. Watch for the opening sale on Sat. June 12, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the grounds of the Parish Center, and then on every Wednesday starting June 16. Face masks must be worn.
