Island Free Library Programs
The Island Free Library invites everyone to participate in the programs listed below.

Library Hours: The Library is now open for in-person browsing. Tuesdays 11 a.m.- 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Saturdays 10 a.m. - 3p.m.

Tuesdays:

Take & Make Craft Kits for preschoolers. Available for pick up Tuesdays only.
Outdoor Music Time with Ms. Carrie at 11 a.m. for ages six months to five years old. Registration is required for this six-week session. Please pre-register for this event.

Wednesdays:

Outdoor Lapsit Storytime for ages birth to two, with Ms. Morgan at 10:30 a.m.

IFL Book Group: On Zoom, at 2 p.m. “Braiding Sweetgrass” by Robin Wall Kimmerer. Copies are available at the library. All readers are welcome.

Thursdays:

Outdoor Preschool Storytime for ages three to five years with Ms. Morgan at 10:30 a.m. All safety protocols followed.
Friday

“Twelfth Night.” Join us on Zoom, Friday, Oct. 15, at 1 p.m. for a performance of Shakespeare. Rachel Pickup will perform an excerpt of “Twelfth Night.” Free, and everyone is welcome.

Saturdays:

2021 Mah Jongg: Come join us outdoors to play 2021 Mah Jongg. 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. 2021 Mah Jongg cards are available. (Cancelled if raining.) All levels of players welcome.
Stitch Together: Bring your projects (knitting, crochet, weaving and embroidery) and join us from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on our front patio. (No Stitch Together on rainy days.)
Free pH soil testing
The URI Master Gardener program is now offering free pH soil testing on Block Island. Take a soil sample, then place it in the drop-off box at the Island Free Library during business hours. Directions are available at https://web.uri.edu/mastergardener/soil-testing-service. Questions? Call Maude Chasse at (203) 233-4889. This is an ongoing program.
Caretakers Support Group
The Caregivers Support Group will be meeting in person at the Community Center on Thursday, Oct. 21, at 4 p.m.. Meetings are free of charge and will be held every other week. Contact Kerri Gaffett at kblockisland@aol.com for questions.
Wake Up Well Podcast
Block Island’s community podcast, Wake Up Well, continues its second season and continues to ask questions about personal well-being and our collective responsibility and power to keep the island well. Helping Hands Food Pantry
Helping Hands food pantry will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 20, at 12 to 2:30 p.m. at the Harbor Church. Masks required and please bring reusable bags. Heavy rain day will be Thursday. The next Helping Hands food pantry will be on Nov. 3.

Rabies vaccination clinic November 6
Chris Hannafin, DVM, of New Shoreham Veterinary Services will sponsor a rabies vaccination clinic for dogs, cats and ferrets on Saturday November 6, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the meeting room of the Police Station. Cost is $12.00 for each vaccination (cash or check only). All dogs must be leashed and all cats and ferrets must be in carriers. Proof of a prior rabies vaccination (certificate) must be shown in order to receive a multi-year booster shot. For questions, contact Dr. Hannafin at the practice at 401-783-7789.
The Nature Conservancy and Block Island Conservancy present:
Annual Community Potluck on Sunday, Oct. 17 at noon. Please bring something yummy to eat, apples to press, music to share. All are welcome. Ocean View Pavillion.
