The Island Free Library invites everyone to participate in the programs listed below.

Library Hours: The Library is now open for in-person browsing. Tuesdays 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Saturdays 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Tuesdays:

Take & Make Craft Kits for preschoolers. Available for pick up Tuesdays only.
Music Time with Ms. Carrie at 10:30 a.m. for ages six months to five years old. Please pre-register for this event.

Community Wellness from 4 to 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome to drop in. Starts December 7.

Stitch Together: Bring your projects (knitting, crochet, weaving and embroidery) and join us at 5:30 p.m.

Wednesdays:

Lapsit Storytime for ages birth to two with Ms. Morgan at 10:30 a.m.

Book Group. Presented by Island Free Library and the Senior Advisory Committee: “The Yellow House” by Sarah M. Broom. December 1 at 2 p.m. on Zoom. Book copies available at the library.

Thursdays:

Preschool Storytime at 10:30 a.m. for ages three to five years, with Ms. Morgan.

Healthy Kids with Kim Gaffett, the OVF Naturalist with The Nature Conservancy will begin on Dec. 3, at 10:30 a.m. All kids welcome.
Saturdays:

2021 Mah Jongg: Join us outdoors to play 2021 Mah Jongg. 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. 2021 Mah Jongg cards are available. (Cancelled if raining.) All levels of players welcome.

Winter Market at Island Free Library: Outdoors on Saturday, November 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vendors should sign up at the library to participate. Stop by to visit, shop, and support your community.
Wake Up Well Podcast

Block Island's community podcast, Wake Up Well, continues its second season and continues to ask questions about personal well-being and our collective responsibility and power to keep the island well. Caretakers Support Group
The Caregivers Support Group will be meeting in person at the Community Center on Thursday, Dec. 2, at 4 p.m.. Meetings are free of charge and will be held every other week. Contact Kerri Gaffett at kblockisland@aol.com for questions.
Senior Ride Service

Helping Hands Food Pantry
Helping Hands food pantry will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 1, at 12 to 2:30 p.m. at the Harbor Church. Masks required and please bring reusable bags. Heavy rain day will be Thursday. The next Helping Hands food pantry will be on Dec. 15.

Block Island Community Sailing Annual Meeting
B.I. Community Sailing will hold its annual meeting on Saturday, Nov. 27 at 4 p.m. at Harbor Church. After a brief business meeting, the guest speaker will be Joe Harris, who sailed his Open 40 Gryphon Solo 2 single handed around the world in 2016.
30th Annual Block Island Holiday Stroll
November 26 - 28. Block Island’s annual “Shop, Sip and Stroll” offers visitors and residents alike a reprieve from the mainland crowds as stores open their doors for this special and popular local shopping event.
Visit with Santa
Saturday, November 27 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Santa will be greeting visitors at the Lobster Pot Tree.
Community Tree Lighting
The Block Island Tourism Council invites you to help us light the tree on the Harbor Church lawn - a tradition for over 15 years. Refreshments will be served, B.I. School students will be singing your favorite carols, and Santa will be there to help turn on the lights. The fun starts at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 30, and the tree will be lit as close to 6 p.m. as possible. (Sometimes it’s a bit early - don’t miss it.)
Movie and a Meal
Movie and a Meal begins again at Harbor Church. December 3: “The Secret: Dare to Dream.” Based on the best-selling novel, “The Secret” (2020) is a feel-good story about the power of positive thinking. Starring Katie Holmes and Josh Lucas. Come for homemade chili and fresh-baked bread. Dinner at 6:30 p.m., film at 7.

21st Annual Thanksgiving Beach Walk The Nature Conservancy invites you to join them for the 21st Annual Thanksgiving Beach Walk to honor the late Capt. John R.
“Rob” Lewis, who is remembered for striding down Crescent Beach where he walked almost every day, often barefoot, in all kinds of weather. Please help then celebrate this great man who inspired so many people to donate land and resources to support conservation on this beautiful island. Leashes are required for canine participants. Shoes are optional. Meet at the Fred Benson Town Beach Pavilion at 9 a.m., Friday November 26. Sign up in advance to participate: email scomings@tnc.org
Night Sky Viewing Friday, November 26 at 5 p.m. at Hodge Preserve. Lay back in the Hodge Preserve field while a local naturalist narrates the season’s constellations, planets, and maybe a shooting star. Dress warmly and bring a blanket/towel, beach chair, and flashlight for your viewing comfort. If the night sky is obscured, the program will be postponed to the following night.
