The Island Free Library invites everyone to participate in the programs listed below.

Library Hours: The Library is now open for in-person browsing. Tuesdays 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Saturdays 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Tuesdays:

Take & Make Craft Kits for preschoolers. Available for pick up Tuesdays only.
Music Time with Ms. Carrie at 10:30 a.m. for ages six months to five years old. Please pre-register for this event.
Tuesday Night Holiday Shopping Stroll at 4:30 p.m. Local artisans and crafters will be selling gifts for the whole family. Stop in and see what’s available.
Stitch Together: Bring your projects (knitting, crochet, weaving and embroidery) and join us at 5:30 p.m. for crafting and conversations. All ages and skills welcome-
bring your problems and questions.
ESL Classes: English as a second language available at 6 p.m. Want to understand English a little better? Bring your friends and join our group at the Island Free Library.

Wednesdays:

Lapsit Storytime for ages birth to two with Ms. Morgan at 10:30 a.m. Come read, sing, dance and play! Masks are required for adults, and safety protocols will be followed.
Book Group Presented by Island Free Library and the Senior Advisory Committee: “Djinn Patrol on the Purple Line,” by Deepa Anappara, December 15, at 2 p.m. on Zoom. Book copies available at the library.
In Our Kitchens: December 15, at 4 p.m. Join the Senior Advisory Committee and the Island Free Library for our Zoom favorite, In Our Kitchens. This week, Desiree Williams will bring us “Holiday Soups.” Join us for some good cooking and great conversation. All are welcome.

Healthy Kids with Kim Gaffett, the OVF Naturalist with The Nature Conservancy will begin at 10:30 a.m. All kids welcome.
Saturdays:

2021 Mah Jongg: Come join us in Room A to play 2021 Mah Jongg. 10 a.m. Do not know how to play? No problem - we will show you.
Build Your Own Gingerbread House: Join us Saturday, Dec. 11 at 11 a.m. for the annual traditional gingerbread house event. All teens and children welcome.
Drop off your letters to Santa
Santa’s letter box will be at the Block Island Post Office through December, 18. Make sure to include a return address so Santa can write you back!
Caretakers Support Group
The Caregivers Support Group will be meeting in person at the Community Center on Thursday, Dec. 16, at 4 p.m.. Meetings are free of charge and will be held every other week. Contact Kerri Gaffett at kblockisland@aol.com for questions.

Monthly Senior Health Checks

Senior Ride Service

Helping Hands Food Pantry
Helping Hands food pantry will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 15, at 12 to 2:30 p.m. at the Harbor Church. Masks required and please bring reusable bags. Heavy rain day will be Thursday. The next Helping Hands food pantry will be on Dec. 29.

Movie and a Meal

Movie and a Meal at Harbor Church. Friday, December 10: “Jungle Cruise,” a “Raiders of the Lost Ark”-type adventure starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt. Dinner at 6:30 p.m., film at 7.

Zoom on Nature with Coffee and Kim Resumes

Wednesday, December 15, at 9 a.m. Kim Gaffett, The Nature Conservancy’s naturalist on Block Island, is continuing her popular virtual walk series this winter focusing on the island’s unique ecosystems, flora and fauna. December 14 will focus on the many island winter berries. Go to natureblockisland.org to access Zoom.
Community Bird Census
Sunday, December 26, at 9 a.m. at Sachem Pond. A morning bird walk combined with individual observations throughout the day that will result in a community-built bird list for the day. This activity is in the spirit of Elizabeth Dickens’s annual day-after-Christmas bird walk. Contact Kim with questions at kim.gaffett@tnc.org.

James Stover Exploration Series
New Year’s Eve Walk: Join us on Friday, December 31, at 10 a.m. for a walk on the last day of 2021. Meet at the Sachem Pond pull-off. Please email Scott at scomings@tnc.org to sign up.
