Island Free Library Programs

The Island Free Library invites everyone to participate in the programs listed below. More information and Zoom links available at islandfreelibrary.org.

Library Hours: The Library will remain open for in-person browsing. Tuesdays 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Saturdays 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Please remember face masks are required while visiting the library.

Tuesdays:

Take & Make Craft Kits for preschoolers. Available for pick-up.
Music Time with Ms. Carrie on Facebook at 10:30 a.m. for ages six months to five years old. Please pre-register for this event.
Visit with Pastor Peter Preiser at the Island Free Library or on Zoom to talk about anxieties and fears. 11 a.m.

Stitch Together: Bring your projects (knitting, crochet, weaving, and/or embroidery) and join us for crafting and conversations. All ages and skill levels are welcome - bring your problems and questions. 5:30 p.m.

ESL Classes: English as a second language available on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. Want to understand English a little better? Bring your friends and join our group at the Island Free Library.

Film and Soup: Come join us in room B to have a cup of soup and watch “Honeyland” at 6 p.m.

Wednesdays:

Book Group: Presented by Island Free Library and the Senior Advisory Committee. Willa Cather’s “O Pioneers!” January 19, 2022 at 2 p.m. on Zoom. Book copies available at the library.

Thursdays:

Preschool Storytime for ages three to five years old with Ms. Morgan at 10:30 a.m. Come read, sing, dance and play. Join us on Facebook.

Fridays:

Healthy Kids Outdoors with Kim Gaffett, the OVF Naturalist with The Nature Conservancy at 10:30 a.m. All kids welcome.
Saturdays:

Mah Jongg: 10 a.m. Join us for a fun game of Mah Jongg in Room A at the Island Free Library. Do not know how to play? No problem - we will show you.
Kids’ Yoga: 10:30 a.m. on YouTube. Yoga for kids that anyone can do.

Frankenstein Tea: 3 p.m. on the Island Free Library YouTube channel. A read-aloud program for adult listeners.

Wake Up Well Podcast
Block Island's community podcast, Wake Up Well, continues its second season and continues to ask questions about personal well-being and our collective responsibility and power to keep the island well. You can listen to Season Two on Anchor or Spotify and you can join the conversation at wakeupwellblockisland@gmail.com.

Caretakers Support Group

The Caregivers Support Group will be meeting in person at the Community Center on Thursday, Jan. 27, at 4 p.m.. Meetings are free of charge and will be held every other week. Contact Kerri Gaffett at kblockisland@aol.com for questions.

Senior Ride Service
Open to island seniors (60 and over) and persons with special needs as well as caretakers without transportation. Register by calling Gloria Redlich, Senior Coordinator at (401) 486-9279 or email gloryb311@gmail.com. To call for a ride contact Sue at (401) 742-0436 or Vin at (401) 741-1410.

Helping Hands Food Pantry
Helping Hands food pantry will be held on Wednesday, January 26, at 12 to 2:30 p.m. at the Harbor Church. Masks required and please bring reusable bags. Heavy rain day will be Thursday. The next Helping Hands food pantry will be on Feb. 9.
