Feeling elegant on a summer’s day?
You may be out on Block Island, you may only have brought a tee shirt, cut-offs, and flipflops, but if you happen to be in the mood to wear something a little more upscale, sisters Erica Sabag and Emily Mitnick may have just the thing for you.
Their pop-up store is Erica Sabag Luxury Consignment, located in Odd Fellows Hall, and the racks are full of authentic, high-end brands of clothing and accessories by such brands as Chanel, Hermès, Gucci, Prada, Isabel Marant, and Louis Vuitton.
Sabag said she is not interested in what she called “fast fashion” — brands that come and go — but rather in fashionable clothing and accessories of quality that endure. “Beauty that transcends trend,” is how Sabag put it. She and her sister also look for companies that operate in a more eco-friendly manner, which is something they know their customers are also interested in.
Sabag and Mitnick said they seek beyond famous names, as well.
“If someone brought something in that didn’t have a name label but was beautiful, I’d take it,” Sabag said. Anyone on the island who may want to make a little money while they’re here can drop off potential items at the store, they said, noting that there is a trend these days to organize or get rid of clutter.
Sabag and Mitnick will also ship purchased items.
Sabag has experience in the consignment market. She’s operated a store in Englewood, New Jersey, for the past five years. This store, once they saw the space in Odd Fellows Hall on Water Street, took all of two weeks to put together. (They’ve been coming to Block Island every consecutive summer since before they were 10.)
“We love Block Island so much we felt this was a natural fit for us,” said Mitnick.
They were particularly pleased with the opportunity to open a small business in Odd Fellows Hall, and pointed out that the other businesses in the space are all owned and operated by women.
The Instagram for the store is Erica_ Sabag and the website is ericasabag.com. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.
