Foster Morrison, 79
Frederick Foster Morrison died peacefully at home in North Potomac, Maryland on Oct. 13, 2018.
Born on July 20, 1939 in Philadelphia, he was the son of Frederick Foster Morrison and Virginia Pearl (White) Morrison.
Foster was a graduate of Wesleyan University (Connecticut) and a member of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society, and Phi Beta Kappa.
Foster began his mathematical career working for the Army Map Service and then the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (now part of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). He published widely in scientific journals. His book, “The Art of Modeling Dynamic Systems,” was a Library of Science Main Selection in May 1991.
Foster is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nancy Lewis Morrison. Nancy grew up on Block Island and graduated from the Block Island School in 1965.
Burial will be in the Island Cemetery. A graveside service and interment in the Lewis family plot will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8.
