Goings on at Harbor Church
Good things are on the way at Harbor Church.
Here’s a glimpse of what’s coming soon:
Spring Festival on Saturday, June 8 from 4 p.m. until dusk. “This is a reimagining of the Fair that we’ve had for a number of years at the end of July. We’ve made this change in the hopes that more of our regular island community will be able to attend. We’re especially excited about the family-friendly activities that we have planned,” says Rev. Peter Preiser. Here is some of what is in store for people of all ages:
Food: Lobster Rolls, Clam Chowder, Grilled Hot Dogs, Veggie Chili, Strawberry Shortcake and beverages.
Children’s Activities: Face and rock painting, crafting projects, Fire and Rescue truck, Police squad car Show-and-Tell, Tug-O-War, and Corn Hole games.
Live Music: Time for Children followed by performances by Carrie Johnson and the UkeLadies.
Auction: of fishing charters, seasonal rental cottages, dinner gift certificates, cooking classes, songwriting lessons and more.
Vendor Tables: Pre-season Farmer’s Market Offerings.
International Student Center: Once again, the church will provide a place for the international seasonal workers to rest and recreate in the lower level Harbor Church. Doors open from 6 to 11 p.m., Monday through Saturday nights, from the beginning of June through the end of August. A weekly dinner will be served on Tuesday nights at 6:30 p.m. with a brief program during each meal to enhance our cultural exchange. Initial Orientation Dinner will be on Tuesday, June 11 at 6:30 p.m. to present town officials, resources and guidelines.
The Common Ground Summer Concert Series kicks off on Friday, June 7: and continues into September. These concerts will be for all ages, rain or shine, on most Friday evenings from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Last year, the front lawn of Harbor Church was landscaped and graded to provide outdoor lawn seating facing the beautiful new pergola – a perfect spot to kick back and listen to some wonderful acoustic music on a Friday night.
“We have some amazing East Coast songwriters coming out this summer and I just can't wait for people to experience these concerts!” says Carrie Johnson, host of the concert series. “I've invited musicians who are also great story tellers, rounding out the performance in a very entertaining way.”
The Common Ground Summer Concert Series is a ticket-free event, but we will “pass the hat” for a donation to the continued support of touring musicians. Schedule of events:
Friday, June 7 – Paul Sachs (from New Jersey)
Friday, June 21 – John Fuzek (Rhode Island)
Friday, July 12 – George Potts (Connecticut)
Friday, July 19 – Mark Cutler (Rhode Island)
