Hunting opportunities at B.I. National Wildlife Refuge
Block Island National Wildlife Refuge will open for white-tailed deer hunting opportunities at designated units during the state hunting season beginning October 11. Similar to past years, Beane Point and Sandy Point units will follow state regulations for deer hunting, while the Wash Pond, Grove Point, and Skippers Island units will open for archery-only hunting during the state season. Wash Pond unit will open for waterfowl (ducks, merganser, and coot) hunting opportunities during the state waterfowl season beginning October 7.
All hunters are encouraged to check in with the Town of New Shoreham Police Department prior to hunting. No permits are required, although hunters must download, sign, and carry a refuge hunting brochure for each season to serve as written permission to access refuge units for hunting. The hunting brochure as well as hunting unit maps are available for download at: www.fws.gov/refuge/blockisland/.
